2015 season a go for Team MTN-Qhubeka

· By Press Office · 7 comments

The 2015 season is a go and we at MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung can’t wait to get out there racing. We were able to strengthen the depth of our roster and brought some new partners on board. Together we want to globalize the awareness of the Qhubeka project, but also share our ambitious goals in terms of development of African cycling and fruitful collaborations. Nelson Mandela once said, that “sport has the power to change the world, […] that it has the power to unite people!” Putting the meaning of these words into perspective easily describes our motivation for the coming months.

“I would like to see the team be competitive in every race we ride. Its important for us to be very visible and at the same time give everyone an opportunity to win in 2015”, says Team Manager Brian Smith. Team Principal Douglas Ryder adds: “As a Pro Conti team we are a ‘guest’ in the World Tour races so when we are given the opportunity to race in these events that we are a ‘guest’ in, we need to make every day count, take every opportunity as if it were our last. We have high expectations to make a difference to the charity Qhubeka and make a difference to so many others. That will come with exceptional performances from each and every rider stepping up to be better than they have ever been.”

The team’s goals for the upcoming season can be centered around the Spring Classics as well as the Tour de France and La Vuelta. “We have the strength and depth in the team to be able to win a Spring Classic and stages of both the Tour de France and La Vuelta. Without the 8 strong additions for 2015 the team rode their first Grand Tour‎ last year with all riders finishing. This shows determination and commitment is already dominant within the team”, Brian Smith continues. Apart from that the team is also keen to deliver at races like the National Championships in Africa, a week long stage race, and the Worlds. “It’s our goal to snatch around 20 UCI wins”, says Douglas Ryder.

As a team we are certain to leave our mark on a lot of different occasions. “In doing so, we will not focus on the rider but on the groups to do well in specific races, we will prepare the best classic riders to be the best they can be in the Classics, the best stage race riders and sprinters to make the biggest impact in the stage races and the best climbers to reach for the stars in the high mountains”, he continues, while Brian Smith adds: “‎I really can’t single out many of the riders within our team to watch in 2015 as we are expecting performances from all. Yet, I would love to see Songezo Jim with his hands in the air as he is Mr Qhubeka!”

Bearing this in mind all the team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung is looking forward to an exciting 2015 season. We hope you as our fans will continue your amazing support. Be sure to keep in touch with us on our website and social channels, as we are also planning a good amount of action on your side as well.
