ABSA Cape Epic celebrates 10th event in 2013

The Absa Cape Epic, which celebrates its 10th event next year, has announced the names of riders to participate in the prestigious event, with the lottery closing on Thursday (31 May) last week. Successful entrants were notified at the end of last week (1 June) and can start their training programmes in anticipation of next year.

The early bird entries for the 2013 race (whereby the first 100 entrants get to participate on a first come, first served basis), which took place on 2 April 2012, were fully subscribed in only 57 seconds, once again proving the popularity of the race. Of the successful entrants, 62,2% have never ridden the race before, 12,7% are female, and 48 countries will be represented.

Says Kevin Vermaak, Director and Founder of the Absa Cape Epic: “International demand to ride the Absa Cape Epic is growing year on year and the lottery system is the most unbiased way of managing the massive demand. In this way, we allow new riders from around South Africa and the world to participate annually. Nine of the riders in next year’s event have completed all nine races to date, and at least 7 teams that also competed in 2004, will ride together again.

We have exciting plans for our 10th event to make it a race of a lifetime and look forward to welcoming the riders.”

I hear there is no return to Knysna - Cape Town for the 10th anniversary of the Epic, Dr Evil has been busy in Tulbagh over the past week and plans are set in that area....
