The Festival runs over three days in “Africa’s Bike City” and riders of all mountain-biking spheres will be able to reap the benefits of fired-up legs and the KwaZulu-Natal sunshine over the long weekend.

The final UCI Commissaire inspections of the cross-country course, as well as registration, late entries, official XCO practice, and team manager and commissaire meetings take place o Friday 29 April before the three days of racing start in earnest.

On Saturday 30 April, the Junior Women kick off the day with their UCI Junior World Series race, the first race of the Pietermaritzburg MTB Festival. The next event is the Elite Women’s UCI HC Category race, which will see the country’s greatest women cross-country specialists battle it out for all-important UCI points as the 2016 Rio Olympic Games qualification deadline draws nearer. The KwaZulu-Natal Development Clinic will run from 11:00-12:00, and then Junior Men will then begin their UCI Junior World Series race shortly afterwards. Later in the afternoon, the Elite Men take to the tracks for their UCI HC Category race.

Sunday 1 May will see the South African National Marathon Masters 30+ Championship get underway from 08:00. A 10-kilometre Family Fun Ride will also be on offer for those not eager to participate anything too strenuous.

At 12:00, the KZN Development Series Finals will take place, where KwaZulu-Natal Cycling Development Officer, Tyrone Johns, will be showcasing the up and coming, as well as already discovered talent in the District Municipalities around the province over the past year. The Final Series trophy will be awarded to the best rider of the best riders from each district.

Monday 2 May will be dedicated to the gravity-loving Enduro enthusiasts, as well as the KwaZulu-Natal Inter-schools XCO races. The combination of slow untimed uphill rides with fast-paced down hills of Enduro racing has proved ever-popular throughout the province and country, and promises to be a challenging and exciting event for all involved. The Inter-schools Series promises to be spectacular again this year, as youngsters between the ages of eight to 18 demonstrate their skills on a mountain bike whilst competing in their respective categories.
