Bayern Rundfahrt #5: Reinardt Janse van Rensburg 6th after Louis Meintjes break

· By Press Office · 0 comments

The final stage of the Bayern Rundfahrt saw John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin) sprint to victory ahead of Rudiger Selig (Katusha) and Sam Bennett (Bora-Argon). Alex Dowsett (Movistar) held on to his 2″ lead to win the race overall.

Louis Meintjes would get into the 6 rider break of the day for MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung and initially Louis would make a challenge for the KOM competition but Frederik Veuchelen (Wanty Groupe Gobert) had the same idea. The Belgians kick would be the difference as he would pip Louis to maximum points on each occasion.

Meanwhile the peloton were chasing behind at around 3 minutes for the majority of the

day. Coming into the final finishing circuit, Bora-Argon 18 and Movistar picked up the chase in the peloton and the gap slowly started to decrease. With 8km to go the race was all together and it would stay that way to the finish so the sprinters could have the final say.

MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung had Reinardt Janse van Rensburg up for the task of sprinting to the line once again and the South African would best his two 9th places and an 8th place from earlier in the week to cross the line in 6th today.

So we finished the stage race with a 6th place from Reinie which made it our 4th top 10 placing from the 4 road stages. We were battling hard for the climbers’ jersey as Louis was in the break again today but unfortunately there was one guy who was faster than him and he came 2nd in the GPM’s. Overall the boys did well, we rode offensively throughout the race and we tried our best after losing our captain. The tour was a huge pleasure, always good weather and a huge crowd especially today in Nurnberg. We are happy to have finished the race in such a way.
