Para-cyclists will once again have the opportunity to participate in a youth event this year, after the most recent Youth Festival in Oudtshoorn in June. The competition will be open to all the disability groups.

The Brandkop Race Track offers a safe cycling environment on a closed circuit in a nature reserve, away from daily road traffic. The 3.4km track features left and right turns, and presents the perfect setting for a time trial on day one, and a road race on day two. The event will cater for the under-14, under-16 and under-18 age categories.

All Para-cycling classes may enter. Cyclists must be classified prior to competition, as no classifiers will be available during the competition.

“We require the cyclist’s national alpha number and a copy of his or her ID at registration,” said National Junior Para Cycling convener, Rudi Kuhn. “The Free State Association for the Physically Disabled and Visually Impaired are hosting an open Classification day on 24 August 2013 at Martie Du Plessis High School in Bloemfontein at a cost of R25-00 per athlete.

“We realise that it is not always possible to enter a team and we are allowing individual entries for Para-cyclists. All Para-cyclists will be awarded points that will be allocated to their provincial team. It will therefore be in the province’s best interest to find and enter these athletes as it could determine the overall outcome of the competition. As we have no funding at this time to assist teams, all traveling and accommodation costs will be for your own accounts.”

For any further information and for the Para-cycling entry form, please contact Rudi Kuhn by email rudi@fssapd.co.za or call 083 411 6233.
