The Continental Championships will be open to riders from the African continent only, and Elite riders will be able to earn valuable UCI points.

The brand new Supercross track at Giba Gorge will be hosting the prestigious event, as well as the 2014 SA National BMX Championships, which will take place a day prior, on Saturday 25 October. The National Champs will be open to South African riders only.

Some of our country’s top riders are already getting to grips with the Giba Gorge BMX SX track, which has witnessed the likes of Kyle Dodd, Gavin Lubbe, Maia Rawlins, Dylan Eggar and Manqobe Madida launching out of the start gates down the 8-metre high start ramp and straight into a 11.5m jump, into a 10.5m jump, into a 13m step up-step down, all before the first turn.

Cycling SA BMX Commission Director, Margot Gerber, said: “We are looking forward to seeing our riders race on a world-class track on home soil. It is an honour to be able to host an African Continental Championship event in South Africa, especially on our brand new Supercross track.

“Not only does a track of this calibre assist our top riders with their training and preparation ahead of World Cup and World Championship events when they race abroad, but it will also assist in developing our young riders from grass-roots level on a world-class facility.”

Cycling SA extends their thanks and appreciation to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sports and Recreation for their support in creating the vital infrastructure that is required to develop our riders in the early stage of cycling skills development through to the High Performance levels required for our top athletes to compete on the world stage.
