South African road cycling teams are starting the 2014 season with a bang as they prepare for the second major race of the year, The Herald VW Cycle Tour, which takes place in Port Elizabeth on 2 February.
In keeping in line with Cycling South Africa’s Top Club team criteria, Bonitas Pro Cycling has met all of those requirements, which includes development requirements and ensuring that the correct riders are on the road when racing.

Bonitas Pro Cycling is using the 106km Herald VW Cycle Tour as an important benchmark ahead of next week’s 2014 Time Freight SA National Road Cycling Championships in Durban.
The team remains relatively unchanged from last year, apart from their latest team member signing, Dylan Girdlestone.
“We’ll be using this race as a final test ahead of SA’s (Champs) next week,” said Bonitas Pro Cycling PR and Operations Manager, Kandice Buys. “There have been a couple of guys that have changed teams, which always adds a new dynamic to the racing.
“There were a lot of teams at The Fast One, in Midvaal, last weekend and that provided very exciting racing. It was our first official big race back.”
Bonitas Pro Cycling will be looking to repeat a breakaway like they did at last year’s Herald VW Cycle Tour. “It’s always a gamble when the riders are in a big bunch,” continued Buys. “But hopefully our sprinters will be ready. Herman (Fouche) is our nominated team sprinter. He is defending his Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour title this year, and his preparations have been good.”
