On 1 February 2021, Concept Cyclery Ballito said a final farewell to its home of eight years and opened doors at a new location just one kilometre away in The Quarter Lifestyle Centre.

The story begins with Burry Stander: the most talented cross country rider South Africa ever produced. Despite his youth Burry had a long-term vision, stretching beyond his racing career, to share his love of cycling with others by creating retail spaces where new and experienced cyclists alike could come not just to buy the best product, but also get the best advice. In 2010 he opened Concept Cyclery Waterfall, followed in 2012 by Concept Cyclery Ballito in his home province KwaZulu-Natal.

Burry was tragically killed by a taxi at the age of just 25 while out training early in 2013, and Charl and Roxanne Stander were thrown in the deep end of owning and running a retail store. Over the years they have done Burry’s legacy proud. They have built a store firmly around family and bringing like-minded people together to celebrate an active and healthy lifestyle.

The move to a new location was driven by the expansion of the industrial area in which the original store was situated and the drive to provide the most accessible and convenient customer experience possible. With ample parking, and quick access from the N2 highway, it is now easier than ever for customers to drop bikes off, pick-up race weekend spares, or just browse the latest apparel and equipment range on display.

Leaving the original building in which Burry opened the store was bittersweet for the family and team, but key features of the original store like the Nguni cowhide Specialized branding and Burry’s London Olympic S-Works Stumpjumper Hardtail were carefully relocated and are proudly on display in their new home. There is also a new very limited Burry Stander S-Works Epic which was especially designed to celebrate Burry’s life following his tragic passing. This is bicycle number 250 of the 250 that were produced.

Walking into the new Concept Cyclery Ballito powered by Burry Stander, the space feels open and welcoming, and the experienced and friendly sales team are on hand to assist, whether you need specific technical guidance or are just browsing. The spacious workshop is fully equipped and laid out to make sure the world-class team can give your bike the care it deserves. The comfortable couches at the coffee bar provide the perfect nook for catching up on emails or just chatting bike while you take a break from work or wait for a fifteen-minute fix.
