The fourth annual Ride for RedCap, a gruelling 640km bicycle ride from Johannesburg to Durban, is fast approaching and is now open to all those who feel that they have what it takes to complete one of the most daunting challenges on the local cycling calendar from November 24-25.

The Ride for RedCap, formerly known as the Double Triple Charity Challenge (DTCC), will now be known as the Ride for RedCap as a sign of support for the RedCap Foundation which is the beneficiary from the event.
With safety paramount for the riders on the busy national roads only 30 spots have been made available by the event organisers for the 2013 edition of the event. Amazingly the opening stage of the two-day endurance ride is longer than any one day stage of the Tour de France.
Kelvin du Sart, the Mr Price Sport Cycle Club Chairman, explains why this challenge is entirely different challenge to all other charity rides as “this ride is not meant to be easy and is earmarked for seasoned riders who literally want to go the extra mile for a good cause.” Du Sart is also responsible for the logistics and safety for the event. “So far everything has gone smoothly, all road permissions have been applied for and we’re coming back with positive feedback from the various road authorities who welcome this ride each year.”
Natasja Ambrosio, the RedCap Foundation Director, elaborates on just how important this ride is to the Foundation, “We are very pleased with the decision that the DTCC will now carry the name of RedCap. The funds raised will help the Foundation’s JumpStart programme to expand its work in assisting unemployed youth with the necessary skills that will make them more employable. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of all the riders, some who repeatedly come back to support us.”
Last year an incredible R115 000 was raised for the RedCap Foundation’s JumpStart programme and this year promises to be just as successful as the cyclists push the human performance boundaries to the limits.
