Since Advendurance took over the responsibility of event organiser, the exciting off-road duathlon series has drawn thousands of entrants, with many new faces from the world of mountain biking slipping on their trail running shoes.

Mountain biking legend Kevin Evans will be leading the onslaught of the cyclists at the final event, looking to surprise the indomitable Brand du Plessis at Van Gaalen. Evans’ technical prowess might tip the scales in his favour and he is no stranger to multisport, having won on the Xterra circuit before.

Among the well-known athletes who will be participating in this year’s final event are junior world triathlon champion Wian Sullwald. It will be interesting to see how the triathletes take to the dirt and battle it out off-road with Du Plessis on his stomping grounds.

The trails at Van Gaalen cheese farm are well known in mountain biking and trail running circles and Advendurance have gone all out to deliver another gem.

While Du Plessis has already sewn up the series win, the elite women’s category is still open for the taking. Lise Olivier won both events she competed in and will unfortunately not be competing at the final event. However Olivier’s teammate Carla van Huyssteen who won the first event and finished second at the last event will be competing, giving her a shot at the overall honours as well.

Previous winner and duathlon legend Andrea Steyn (Team PeptoPro) is back in racing form after suffering an injury that kept her from the first couple of DualX events and will be eager to reclaim the top step on Saturday.
