The third edition of the Garden Route’s most spectacular stage race, the Dr Evil Classic, will take place from 18-20 September 2014. Entries open on 14 February and master route designer Leon Evans has guaranteed that his signature event will once again be one to remember.

“My reputation as Dr Evil only stretches only as far as the Absa Cape Epic is concerned,” he commented. “For everything else I am actually Dr Nice. A three-day ‘classic’ may sound evil, but it is in fact a fun-filled three days!”

THE ROUTE

“The event is designed for the average rider,” he added; and confirmed what all returning riders are no doubt hoping for, that the route will not differ dramatically from last years event, but that he will in fact endeavor to make it a little easier, but at the same time it needs to be a bit of a challenge.

Each day’s stage will be around 80-kilometres long and – in keeping with the event’s creed of offering ‘something for everybody’ – be made up of a combination of singletrack, scenic district roads and forest trails. “Nowhere in the country can you ride indigenous forests as you can here,” said Evans of the forest belt of hills and dales between Wittedrift and Knysna.

The event will run in a daily cloverleaf format from the race village in Wittedrift and detailed route maps and profiles will be published soon. As soon as Evans is finished route-planning for that race in which is known as Dr Evil.

ENTER AND WIN

A shuttle will be available from Knysna to Uniondale after the finish on Saturday 20th September for those riders who are also tackling the Pennypinchers Die Burger Lions Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge. Dr Evil Classic riders will receive a preferential start in the K2C and receive a discount of R200 on Dr Evil entry costs if they enter both events.

Enter before before the 25 May and stand a chance to win a team entry and three nights accommodation at the Plettenberg Bay Game

Reserve – Baroness Lodge, valued at R12 000. Early Bird entrants will also be entered into a draw to win a Merida 29er.

Entries are limited so go to www.drevilclassic.com on 14 February or contact race director Zandile Meneses directly on: zandile@drevilclassic.com.

More climbing than last year....

Havent done it before, but the routes look very nice, most of the hard climbing up early and then nice long run into each days finish. At least you will look good coming in !!!
