· By Press Office · 0 comments

Cycling South Africa will be hosting a Junior Selection Race in conjunction with the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, on 7-8 May.

With the road closures and route infrastructure in place for the opening round of the Para-cycling World Cup season, the event organisers will be taking the opportunity to host all Junior cyclists who carry a Full Racing License with Cycling South Africa.

Riders will have to compete in all of the races over the two competition days – these being the Time Trial, Road Race and the Criterium. The races will be held on the technical Time Trial and Road Race courses that have been established for the Para-cycling Road World Cup. Route maps and profiles can be seen here: http://www.cyclingsa.com/2016-uci-para-road-world-cup/.

All events that will be hosted need to be competed by all participants in order to be eligible for squad selection. The National Selectors will be present and selections will be made over the course of the weekend based on race performances and race results, with every aspect of the racing being monitored by the Selectors.

A squad of six Junior Men and four Junior Women will be selected for the European Tour. Dependent on the standard of the racing of the South African squad riders in the European races, a final team will be selected to compete in the 2016 UCI Road World Championships in Doha, Qatar, from 9-16 October. The number of team riders will be dependent on our Nations’ ranking prior to the World Champs.

The final time schedules are yet to be finalised. Entries will open on Wednesday 13 April and will be communicated accordingly.
