· By Press Office · 1 comment

Time is finally drawing nearer to the start of the KwaZulu Natal leg of the Junior Eliminator Series. There are three new host venues with very exciting and spectator friendly tracks. Riders are going to be tested in explosive power, technical skills and stamina to maintain a high pace over the entirety of the course.

Two of the host venues are on school grounds which riders from the particular schools were very involved with designing the courses which includes racing through corridors, down stairs and embankments as well as a very exciting water feature at Maritzburg College for the finale.

Northwood Boys High School, Durban North will host the opening event on Sunday 24 May with registration and course testing starting from 9am with the first heat setting off at 10am. Giba Gorge Bike Park, Pinetown will play host to round two of the series on Sunday 31 May – yes, it is Comrades day, but luckily it is a “up run” so there will be road access to the park, we will however be starting registration only at 12pm. The entire course is in front of the restaurant so parents and spectators can enjoy a good meal whilst being entertained by some great racing. The third and final round of the series will take place at Maritzburg College, Maritzburg as already mentioned there is a certain water feature the school cycling team is working on for the riders pleasure and spectators enjoyment.

Entries for the series are open and all riders of any fitness and riding ability are encouraged to come give it a go! We already have a number of entrants including a handful of ladies which is great to see as we only had one lonely lady challenging the boys last year. Eliminator is short course heat racing whereby four riders at a time charge around a course between 600m – 800m with fast straights, punchy climbs and obstacles to test and teach riders skills. A heat lasts roughly just under two minutes with the top two finishers advancing to the next round and the bottom two riders being eliminated from the event. It’s a great opportunity to get a taste of racing without having to be a full on competitive athlete to race hard over a long distance, it’s a fun and entertaining format of mountain biking and will build the riders confidence to cross over in to the other formats of cycling. Over and above all this, the series has great sponsors who have showered each event with fantastic product both for the finalists as well as plenty of raffle draw prizes at each event.

Trek Bikes – A Superfly Full Suss #ProjectOne is up for raffle at the end of the whole series(nationally). The winner will receive R70 000 to customize their own bike!

Rayne Cameras – Have given a action camera to each province for a raffle draw and a camera to the Winning Team!

Enjoy Fitness – Awesome cycling tops at every event as prizes as well as a R10 000 voucher to the Winning Team for custom riding kit for their school!

Skullcandy – Have loaded the prize offering with mindblowing headsets!

Fox Racing – Supply great riding product and clothing!

OGIO – will be giving away trendsetting back packs!

All of the above on top of vouchers from the Local bike shops… Further more, the podium finishers at each event will receive a cash incentive!

So dont miss out on the opportunity to race in this exhilarating series and stand a chance to win some fantastic prizes. Entries are open and online: www.onemovement.co.za.

The series offers u/14, u/16 and u/19 girls and boys divisions. We are looking forward to some exciting racing in KwaZulu Natal especially after the huge entertainment supplied by the competitors in the Western Cape:
