Round four of the Stihl 2016 SA XCO Cup Series takes place this year at Settler’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 14 May. Entries are open and close at midnight on Tuesday 10 May. Eastern Cape Bike Mountain Bike Commissioner, Charl Joubert says: “Although it will be very much the same as last year’s track, there are a few changes and new instalments, including a brand new rock garden.”

The upgraded course has 4.2-kilometre laps and an elevation of 170 metres. Joubert also mentioned that the course is very different to the other XCO National Cup tracks. “In the Baakens Valley, there is plenty of beautiful vegetation surrounding the trails, and not too much dust,” he added.

“It won’t be as technically challenging as the 2015 PE XCO track, however it will still be technical. There is a lot of climbing involved though, and this will definitely require a lot of powering down and a lot of strength. It’s definitely going to suit the stronger riders,” said Joubert.

The track is located less than two kilometres from the Port Elizabeth Airport, St Georges Park and Cricket grounds are within walking distance. Port Elizabeth’s main beach, Kings Beach, and the harbour are less than two kilometres from the track. “It’s an extremely spectator-friendly course, with view points on either side of the valley,” added Joubert.

The fourth round of the Stihl 2016 SA XCO Cup Series, takes place at Settler’s Park, Port Elizabeth, on Saturday 14 May. Although the UCI Category 1 rating applies to Pro-Elites only, the Juniors will be able to earn series points, as well as UCI points for their own UCI Junior World Series at some of the Cup Series events.
