Major sponsors come on board for Provincial ROAG Series

Following the success of 2012’s inaugural ROAG Series, Quattro have come on board as major sponsors for the annual ROAG Series.

Nine events last year formed part of what is now a mountain biking series that boasts the largest overall prize money than any other mountain biking series in the country. R20 000 will be awarded to both the Quattro Overall men’s and Overall women’s winners. In 2012, the coveted top spots were awarded to Andrew Hill in the men’s category, and Natalie Bergstrom claimed Overall Women.

Riders ranging from Grand Masters to the Nippers participated in MTB races which made up the ROAG Series. They were awarded points according to their position, age category and race which ROAG logged after each race. Age category winners (as well as the overall winners) were rewarded at the ROAG Series Celebration Dinner hosted at Giba Gorge MTB Park on December, 1, 2012.

Gary Watkins, Joint CEO at Quattro said coming on board as major sponsors was an easy decision, purely because they are passionate about the sport of mountain biking.

“Mountain biking is not only a passion of ours, but also a passion of many of our clients. What the ROAG Series aims to achieve is in line with our objectives. We support mountain biking, therefore we support the ROAG Series,” Watkins said.

These objectives include raising the profile of mountain biking; growing mountain biking from a grassroot level, encouraging elite riders to participate in local races as well as producing a platform where social riders can challenge their friends: the ROAG Series encapsulated all this and more.

2013 looks to be just as successful as its predecessor. Of the nine races, six remain the same as last year (including the Sunday Tribune Jeep Hill 2 Hill). This year, there were three welcome newcomers to the Series, including the Karkloof Classic MTB Festival, the Sardine Classic and Gears 4 Ears MTB Classic. Six out of the nine events are some of ROAG’s largest administered races, and three of the events are wildcards.

Taking part in the ROAG Series is simple and straightforward – merely participate in a minimum of six races that form part of the Series in 2013! It is FREE to take part in the ROAG Series; however participants will be required to pay the race entry fees for each race, as well as the necessary CSA Membership fees. ROAG administers a comprehensive log that updates your results after each race so that you can keep tabs on your performance throughout the year.

Points are awarded using a ROAG Grand Prix Points System and riders must take part in the correct distance for each age category to earn points toward the final log positions. Overall prize money is only eligible for full distance events.

The first race in the ROAG Series is the 4ever Cycles Wartburg Classic on February, 23 at Wartburg Kirchdorf School. There will be distances of 10km, 25km, 45km and 62km.
