Mountain Bikers Prepare for Gauteng Nationals

· By Matt · 0 comments

Cross-country and downhill specialists are gearing for Round No. 2 of the CSA-MTB National Series, taking place in Gauteng on 14th and 15th April 2012.

The XCO will take place at the Fountains Valley track in Groenkloof, and the DHI at “139” in Waterkloof, which is the off-ramp number off the N1 highway in Pretoria.

Some changes for 2012 sees the XCO being raced in a different direction, providing a somewhat “new route” at the popular Gauteng venue. The approximate 5.5km track now presents 4 tough climbs, which are steeper, but the whole track is rideable and not overly technical.

Downhillers will be racing right alongside the N1 highway at “139” in Waterkloof, the exit number of the N1. Locals from Gravityallstars have spent the past two months on the course and building some really good jumps and berms, including a rock garden. It is a fun course and a lot of effort has been put into fine-tuning the track.

Situated in the middle of town, it is less than 5km away from the XCO course, and the downhill fraternity will be encouraged with the great spectator value the track has to offer. The fastest run is expected to be around 2-minutes.

Racing commences on Saturday at 08:00 for the XCO, and on Sunday from 10:00 for the DHI.
