Top XTERRA Warriors countrywide are counting down the days to the TOTALSPORTS XTERRA Buffelspoort presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT. Returning to the picturesque Buffelspoort Dam in the North West Province on Saturday, 24 and Sunday, 25 January 2015, sports enthusiasts have a valid reason to spend time outdoors and keep fit this festive season.

According to Pretoria based XTERRA Warrior Nico Sterk, the Totalsports XTERRA is the best organised triathlon. “Taking place in one of the cleanest freshwater dams in South Africa, the XTERRA Buffelspoort swim leg can be challenging due to the high altitude location and the fact that it is normally a non-wetsuit swim. The bike route has all the characteristics of a marathon style course and will test the fitness of each and every athlete. Most of the route is fast jeep track, but every now and then you will encounter rocky sections making it challenging. For me the 12km trail run is the most challenging part of the race. The trail run route features a variety of terrain including a ravine crossing, running through a forest and running on a plateau. The Totalsports XTERRA Buffelspoort is a big event on the local calendar”.

Stellenbosch based XTERRA Warrior Theo Blignaut agrees that the run discipline is the most challenging part of the Totalsports XTERRA Buffelspoort. “By the time one gets to the run discipline it’s been really hard going having completed the swim and mountain bike disciplines,” says Blignaut. “This makes it easy to lose focus, while the run course is not easy. I enjoy everything that the Totalsports XTERRA Buffelspoort has to offer. The vibe, the race and everybody’s war stories afterwards. It really is a great day out for participants and family”.
