Nissan Trailseeker Wellington attracts top field

· By Press Office · 0 comments

Western Cape mountain bikers are licking their lips ahead of Saturday’s third round of the 2017 Nissan TrailSeeker Series, which takes place on the highly-acclaimed trails around Wellington. With four events on offer and good weather predicted, a large field is expected.

Top riders that have confirmed they’ll be competing in the men’s marathon include Round 2 winner, Matt Beers (Red E/Cannondale) and Round 1 winner, Waylon Woolcock (Team BCX). Woolcock narrowly leads the series ahead of Port Elizabeth-based Marco Joubert (Momsen), who will also be on the start line on Saturday.

Gert Heyns (Ascendis Health), fresh from his podium finish at the Ashburton Investments National MTB Series event at Van Gaalen this past weekend has also confirmed he’ll be competing, making for a strong men’s field.

In the women’s marathon, in-form Candice Lill (dormakaba) will make her first appearance at a Nissan Trailseeker event this year. She comes into the event with a high level of confidence after winning the Ashburton Investments National MTB Series event at Van Gaalen last Saturday.

Lill will be up against the likes of South African marathon champion, Robyn de Groot (Ascendis Health), 2017 Series leader, Louise Ferreira, Round 2 winner, Tandi Kitching, and other regular podium finishers such as Carmen Buchacher (Velocity Sports Lab), Katie Lennard and Tanja Oosthuyse.

The event starts and finishes at Bosman Family Vineyard and has a 66km marathon, a 44km half marathon, a 20km Fun Race and a 10km Fun Ride. There’s a good deal of gradient in the area and the marathon has a generous 1363 metres of climbing, while the half marathon has 774 metres of ascent. The high volume of stimulating mountain bike singletrack in the area will ensure a memorable route for all distances.

As with all Nissan TrailSeeker events, the race venue will cater for all ages and offers supporters and spectators a comfortable, relaxed environment to enjoy while they wait for their mountain bikers to enjoy the trails.

Online entries can still be done at www.trailseeker.co.za.
