Cycling South Africa has selected road cyclist Nyiko Oupa Maluleke to participate in the next Training Camp at the UCI World Cycling Centre Africa, taking place in Potchefstroom from 15 September to 3 November 2013.

The opportunity afforded to Cycling SA from the UCI World Cycling Centre Africa is immense as it plays a vital role in assisting the organisation to further their Transformation and Development objectives and providing opportunities for its riders. It gives riders an opportunity to train at a world-class facility under the guidance of Olympian, JP van Zyl.

Maluleke was selected following a call for nominations from all Provincial affiliates. Cycling SA is confident that Maluleke will step up and make full use of this golden opportunity afforded him.

The Training Camp is aimed at preparing cyclists for the upcoming African Road Championships to be held in Egypt in November, and Cycling South Africa is grateful for the one sponsored spot provided by the UCI World Cycling Centre Africa.

The 22-year-old from Soweto currently rides for the Panda Push-4-Gold Cycling team and has spent the past two years riding for the Panda Sports development team, the feeder team to the Tasol-GT Pro Cycling team, now known as Team Abantu.

Oupa created a stir in April last year when he clinched the silver medal at the SA National Elite Track Championships in Pietermaritzburg. He has since continuously progressed as a rider under the mentorship of World Track Silver Medallist Nolan Hoffman.

Other career highlights include an 8th place in the Jock Cycle Challenge (2009), 8th in the OFM Classic (2010) and 4th in the Tour of Soweto (2010).
