The fifth edition of the race will take place from 30 January to 3 February 2015 and has already attracted riders across 11 different nationalities with South Africans leading the charge, including last year’s winners Timo Cooper (RSA), pro-rider for Rocky Mountain, and Hannele Steyn (RSA), previous winner of the Cape Epic and past winner of the World Triathlon Championship. With just two months to the start of the race, the 2015 edition is set to exceed last year’s field of 91 riders across 17 nationalities.

This year competitors will ride an all-new 400-kilometre route, including Jebel Shams, Arabia’s highest peak at 3,028 metres. The route has been designed to test riders of all abilities and will take in challenging climbs, descents and specially designed single-track. The race follows the tried and tested format of a prologue followed by four marathon stages.

The Trans Hajar Mountain Bike Race, driven by the Oman Cycling Association, is unlike any other multi stage race winding its way through Oman’s unique landscapes, through canyons, wadis, river-crossings and the occasional village untouched by time, providing an inside view of a uniquely beautiful country. The dates of the race make it the perfect opportunity to improve form ahead of the upcoming season with past competitors finding it ideal training for the Cape Epic and other early season marathon races.
