Online entries for the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Tricycle Tour, refreshed by Minute Maid, and the Junior Tour, presented by Spur Steak Ranches, close on Wednesday 27 February 2013. Parents are encouraged to enter their children timeously as no late entries will be allowed on the day.

The format for the 2013 event includes additional ride categories for the Tricycle and Junior Tours. Both events are fun rides and not races, and intended at developing a love for the sport of cycling among youngsters.

Strict adherence to the age categories is being enforced this year and in the case of parents having children in different age groups, a child care facility will be available. A secure kid’s area will be set up so that parents can leave their young ones for a maximum of one hour while they participate with another child. The childcare facilities will only be available to kids from the age of 2 years and older.

Children can keep themselves entertained with an exciting treasure hunt while they wait for their event to start. There will be four different stations, each with its own activity to complete before children can receive a stamp and move on to the next station.

The Tricycle Tour is aimed at youngsters up to the age of 6 years old. To ensure everyone has an enjoyable ride there will be one 1.7km mini-lap with children up to two years of age and a parent starting at 8.30am. The 3-4 age group will start their 1.7km lap at 9.30am with the 4-6 age group tackling the route at 10.30am.

The Junior Tour is ideal for youngsters between the ages of 6 and 12 years and offers a 2.5km, 5km or 7.5km route. Parents on their own bikes are welcome to join first-timers on the track. All age groups are welcome to ride the distance they feel most comfortable with.

The event takes place on Saturday, 9 March 2013 at the Youngsfield Military Base in Wynberg. As part of the safe cycling initiative, parents and youngsters are reminded to bring their helmets to the events, as a strict “No Helmet No Ride” rule will apply.

Registration will take place between 1 and 8 March 2013 at the Canal Walk Shopping Centre, Pick n Pay Court from 9am – 9pm and at the Cape Argus Lifecycle Expo on 7 and 8 March at the Good Hope Centre.
