The 2015 Juniors event takes place on Saturday, 07 March at the Youngsfield Military Base in Wynberg, offering young riders the chance to build their confidence and learn the basics of cycling in a safe and controlled environment.

Children aged 0 – 6 can tackle the 1.7km fun ride, while those between the ages of 6 and 12 years will have the option of riding one of four routes: 2.5km, 5km, 7.5km or 10km, depending on their level of skill and fitness. Parents must accompany their 0 – 6 aged riders on foot, while parents of the older participants have the option of accompanying their kids on a bike. The “No Helmet, No Ride” rule will apply to both children and accompanying parents.

David Bellairs, a director of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust which organises the annual event, says: “The popularity of cycling as a healthy lifestyle continues to grow, not only amongst older riders, but with the youth. The Juniors event encourages youngsters to become more involved with cycling and to develop their passion for the sport, in the hope that they will go on to tackle the 109km Cape Town Cycle Tour one day. The Juniors event is a great platform for us to instil safe cycling practices and promote the benefits of cycling from a young age.”

To avoid disappointment, parents are encouraged to enter their children as soon as possible. Online entries are limited to ensure the enjoyment and safety of all riders on event day. Each rider who successfully completes one of the five available routes can look forward to receiving a goodie bag, medal and certificate.

Apart from the routes, a range of other child-friendly activities – from jumping castles and face painting to special bird shows and lucky draws – will be on offer at the venue. This is sure to keep the young ones entertained for hours, making the Juniors event an ideal day out for the entire family.

Registration will take place between Friday, 27 February and Friday, 06 March at the Main Stage area of Canal Walk Shopping Centre, open from 9am to 9pm daily. This registration venue will also offer an array of activities to keep young tots entertained while they wait to collect their ride packs.

Online entries close on Monday, 23 February and no entries will be processed on the day of the event.
