Popular DualX multisport series 2016 kicks off

· By Press Office · 0 comments

This weekend, the popular offroad run-bike-run series, the Momentum Health OatWell DualX powered by PeptoPro, kicks off just East of Pretoria at Legends MX, a recently added venue to the series.

The growing popularity of multi-discipline events can be ascribed to getting the best of both trail running and mountain biking worlds combined with a fun-for-the-whole-family appeal. According to Advendurance the company behind the organisation of these events, the DualX series is positioned to serve as an introduction to multisport.

“The offroad duathlons, with the absence of swimming, really makes the sport easily accessible, all you need is a mountain bike and some running shoes, which really brings down the barrier to entry,” said Fritz Pienaar of Advendurance.

“We select our venues carefully to give athletes a decent challenge without making it too difficult for beginners and, most importantly, enjoyable all round. The various distances you can choose from caters for all fitness levels and the kiddies event with child-minding facilities really makes this appealing to the whole family,” added Pienaar.

Legends MX, the venue for the opening event of the 2016 series, is investing heavily in building permanent mountain bike and running trails in the pristine surrounds. The last event of 2015 also took place at Legends MX and its amenities were very well received and, with some more improvements having already been made, it promises to be a great start to the year.

While the series is aimed primarily at participation, there’s a fiercely competitive group of athletes at the sharp end of each race. The likes of Brand du Plessis and Nico Sterk are sure to be the main contenders for the men’s title, while Andrea Steyn and Carla van Huysteen are the names to watch in the battle for the women’s race crown.

The main events comprises a DualX Full, which is a 5km run, 30km bike and 2.5km run; a DualX Half, a 2.3km run, 15km bike and 1.25km run; and a DualX Quarter, a 1.2km run, 7.5km bike an 750m run. Athletes can enter either as individuals or in teams.

Online entries have closed but entries will be accepted on the day at race venue.
