Plantur, sponsor of professional international female cyclists, Team Liv-Plantur, has announced it will donate R20 000 to support a prominent disadvantaged woman cyclist as a contribution to developing the sport in South Africa.

Team Liv-Plantur has entered four members of its global cycling team in the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge this weekend. They are among three female pro international teams in the race for the first time in its 19-year history.

The Liv-Plantur team has identified Zanele Tshoko, 22, from pro SA Team, Rand Water, as the recipient of their donation. Tshoko is part of the Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy which promotes cycling among disadvantaged communities.

“We are thrilled to be at the 947 and as part of our campaign, we want to give back to SA cycling development. We believe Zanele and Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy are worthy recipients and we hope to take our association further in the future,” said Plantur spokesperson, Michael Seefeldt.

Tshoko is currently the Western Province road cycling champion with several podium finishes this season. She recently represented SA at the All Africa Games in Congo.

She said she was thrilled with the donation which would go towards kit and race entry fees. “I am incredibly grateful and looking forward to further collaboration between myself, Velokhaya and Team Liv-Plantur to help further develop cycling in SA,” Tshoko said.

The donation will be presented to Tshoko at the Plantur gazebo at 9:30am at the end of the Twitter Ride on Saturday, 14 November 2015.
