A road triathlete, Riddle professed that the Fedhealth XTERRA is the only off-road triathlon that he participates at. “XTERRA Grabouw is my only off-road event. It’s awesome,” says Riddle. “Mountain biking is a lot harder than road cycling. So my plan was to get a lead on the swim and then go into survival mode. I managed to keep my lead though. The event was a lot of fun. It was super well organized with a lot of marshals out on route. Being able to successfully defend my 2017 title was awesome. It’s great to see hard work paying off.”

Riddle completed the 2018 Fedhealth XTERRA Lite in an impressive time of 01 hour 06 minutes 20 seconds. Samuel Courts came in second, while David Sher finished third.

Obliterating the women’s race, Kruger travelled all the way from Pretoria to take on the Fedhealth XTERRA Lite in Grabouw. “I was hoping to do well, but I really didn’t expect to win,” says Kruger. “I was second out of the water and managed to catch the leader early on the mountain bike leg. From there I led till the end. I enjoy XTERRA because it is tough, but fun. It keeps your mind going.”

Kruger completed the 2018 Fedhealth XTERRA Lite in a deserving time of 01 hour 19 minutes 32 seconds. Xanri Haak came in second, while Daneil Feldmann finished third.

“Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw is the biggest XTERRA in the world, and this year has once again thrilled both local and overseas participants. The Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw Lite gives beginner off-road triathletes the chance to prove themselves in the dam, on the tough climbs of the mountain bike course, and on the tough trails. As there is also an event for kids and more serious XTERRA Warriors, the whole family can share in the fun and fitness over the weekend,” says Jeremy Yatt, Principal Officer of Fedhealth.
A perfect introduction to the sport of XTERRA, the 2018 Fedhealth XTERRA Grabouw Lite saw off- road triathletes having to complete: a 400m swim in the picturesque Eikenhof Dam, a 14km mountain bike route and a 6.5km trail run.
