With another bumper entry assured the big field of road cyclists for the 2015 aQuellé Tour Durban presented by Sunday Tribune will enjoy the full closure of roads for the 105km and 45km road races and the 55km cyclocross race on Sunday 26 April.

The route is unchanged from last year and riders have endorsed the popular course that heads south from the start at Moses Mabhida Stadium before heading up the hill through Queensburgh to Pinetown, then down to the Umgeni Interchange before concluding with the popular coastal out-and-back leg on the M4 freeway.

With the full backing of the Durban City Metro Police department the road closures will start from 5:30am and will be re-opened as soon as possible after the last cyclists have cleared each sector.

The race organisers have stressed that they will strive to keep inconvenience to local residents to a minimum on the day, and will re-open the roads to normal traffic as promptly as possible after the sweep vehicles have confirmed that the last of the riders has left that section of the road.

The race has mushroomed in popularity in recent years largely because riders appreciate riding the major roads around Durban under the safety of a total road closure.

The race committee has extended its appreciation to Durban residents for accommodating the road closures on the day of the race, and the positive spirit shown by many residents along the route who turn out to support the riders during the race.

The event falls in line with the broader strategy of the City of Durban to position itself as a premier sporting events destination on the African continent.
