The ABSA Cape Epic Route for 2014 was launched at two functions this week, one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg. As always the route will be testing, but it is the human spirit that will prevail and this week on MTB Talk SA Brad Brown caught up with a few of the individuals that are, and will be involved in the 2014 edition of the race.

Former Springboks Joel Stransky and Stefan Terblanche are both riding next year. This will be race number five for Joel while it is Stefan’s first attempt at the iconic race and the pair spoke to Brad about what riding the epic means to them. Brad also touched base with William Mokgopo, a development rider from the Diepsloot Mountain Bike Academy who will be taking on his third Epic. William told Brad how he got into the sport and what mountain biking has done for him.

Kevin Vermaak also joins Brad on this week’s show to chat about some of the cool innovations that will be introduced in next year’s race, including a tracking pod that will allow spectators to track any of the teams in real time throughout the race. There is also a big charity aspect to the ABSA Cape Epic and Richard Beer from CANSA spoke to Brad about their involvement in the race.

And then finally, this past weekend saw the Africa Cycle Fair take place in Johannesburg. Stuart Pickering of Cycling Direct spoke to Craig Wapnick about the 2014 Joberg2C.
