· By Press Office · 0 comments

The annual Oudtshoorn Youth Festival this year was again hosted by the Eden Cycling Association, and took place from 27-30 June 2016. The Festival saw an exceptional entry field of 180 plus cyclists from the Eden, Western Province Metropolitan, West Coast, Free State and Eastern Cape regions.

Events included a Road Race, Hill Climb, Team Time Trial, Criterium and MTB Cross-country, which gave the youngsters a chance to compete against one another in the great variety of disciplines, hence promoting healthy skills and competition among the age groups.

Event Organiser, Corne Bence said: “Special thanks must go to the Pedal Power Association and DCAS (Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport) for their generosity, support and sponsorship towards the event. Without this, the event would not have been able to be the success it was.”

All those involved in the event extended their gratitude to Cycling South Africa President, William Newman, who attended the Festival and had the opportunity to witness the incredible young talent on display.

“All in all, the competition was extremely stiff, the Inter-provincial and District Team Spirit was tremendous and the standard of racing and officiating was top-class,” said Bence.

The overall regional results went as follows:

  1. Eastern Cape
  2. Eden (Highest placed Western Cape district)
  3. Western Province
  4. Cape Winelands
  5. West Coast
  6. Free State
