Team Bestmed-ASG to race for UCI points at Cycle Challenge

· By Press Office · 0 comments

Team Bestmed-ASG women’s pro cycling team will have a rare opportunity to race for UCI points against the world’s best when the riders line up for the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge in Johannesburg on Sunday.

This year, the women’s race has been granted UCI 1.1 status by cycling’s global governing body, which should draw one of the strongest feminine fields in the history of the event as a number of Olympic hopefuls try to qualify for Rio in 2016.

Four-time Cycle Challenge champion and Bestmed ambassador Anriette Schoeman will spearhead the Bestmed-ASG attack as guest rider.

Schoeman appears to be on dangerous form after winning the mountain bike component of the event last weekend.

She will be joined by elite riders Michelle Benson, Sanet Coetzee, Riana Robertson and Mariette Hattingh.

SA veteran road champ Desray Sebregts will represent the team in her age category, while Lynette Benson and Azulde Britz will vie for the junior and under-16 titles respectively.

The team will look to test themselves against leading international teams like homegrown heroine Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio’s Swiss-based Bigla Pro outfit.

Also in the mix are the Liv Plantur and Tivco SVB teams, which are based in the Netherlands and United States of America respectively.

On the home front, they will face competition from traditional rivals Activate-Demacon, Time Freight-e and Clover Prestigio, while invitational teams comprising a mix of riders from as far afield as Eritrea, Ethiopia, Israel, Rwanda and Mauritius round out a thrilling start list.
