The breath-taking scenery, diverse landscape and quiet dirt roads of the Overberg region will provide the backdrop for the 8th Annual Staalwater MTB Challenge and Spring Trail Run the weekend of 19 and 20 August.

The fun-filled weekend will be presented by Bike Hub at The Caledon Casino, Hotel, Spa and Entertainment and caters to both amateur and advanced mountain bikers and trail runners of all ages. Those who prefer not to get their hands dirty can opt for spa treatments and delicious meals instead.

“We are looking forward to yet another successful Staalwater Mountain Bike Challenge and Trail Run this year. The Caledon, which is a launch pad for a stunning array of outdoor and adventure activities in the area, is proud to be associated with the Staalwater event,” says Marketing Manager, Ailsa van Wyk at The Caledon.

Meurant Botha from Dirtopia, the organisers says, “The event is for everyone, from those who are serious about their sport, to those who are keen to enjoy some outdoor activity with their friends and families in a beautiful setting. The local charity Round Table will do fundraising by supplying marshals for the routes and managing the waterpoints.”

“Day 1 is generally tougher than Day 2 with both 40km and 60km route options having roughly 250m of additional climbing on the Saturday. Remember you can do either day or both with any permutation of distances. The 2nd day also offers a 15km option for the less fit.” continued Botha.

Prizemoney is up for grabs by the winners of the long-distance stage race too! Pre-enter online by the 16th of August to receive some goodies at registration too. The profiles and full route info is available on the website.

At only R400 for the Staalwater MTB Challenge long routes, it is the most affordable 2-day mountain bike outing on the calendar, with riders free to choose their accommodation and meal options to fit their budgets. The late August date coincides with vast fields of yellow canola blossoms and lush green wheat fields, making for a visual feast not to be missed.

The host, The Caledon Casino, Hotel and Spa offers panoramic views of the Klein Swartberg Mountains, conveniently located only an hour’s drive from Cape Town.
