Fröhlinger, who recently placed 14th at China’s Tour of Hainan where teammate Max Walscheid celebrated five stage wins, is in South Africa on vacation during the international off-season.

On Thursday he visited the Velokhaya academy which combines cycling with education to help develop disadvantaged athletes. Fröhlinger donated cycling shirts, bibs, water bottles and caps and shared about his decade as a professional before cycling around the township with some of the academy’s athletes.

Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy has produced professionals Songezo Jim and Luthando Kaka. Managing director Sipho Mona welcomed Fröhlinger’s support, explaining that the Academy’s work had helped provide direction and hope for scores of township youths.
