· By Matt · 2 comments

If you enjoy action-packed racing and high performance cycling then head down to the Bellville Velodrome near Cape Town on Friday evening and Saturday to catch South Africa’s finest track cycling stars in action.

The Western Province Interprovincial/SA Cup takes place on Friday 17th August, starting at 19:00 and featuring the action-packed, highly entertaining sprint and team sprint races. Saturday 18th August sees the hosting of the Western Province Grand Prix, starting at 12:00 noon.

Fast and furious racing with tight results is expected across the disciplines at the event laden with the 2012 SA National Champions as well as London Olympian Bernard Esterhuizen, who has returned from his stint at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland; especially since all of these athletes are in the prime of their season right now.

The hosts are also expecting the biggest entry list of women at a track event in South Africa, who will be representing all of the participating provinces, in an attempt to grow the number of female competitors in track cycling.

Racing takes place across all the age categories for men and women in the events including the keirin, 1500, scratch, sprint, team sprint, points, elimination, pursuit and team pursuit. Saturday’s Grand Prix will see the SA sprint champion and SA keirin champion race against Esterhuizen, our Olympian sprinter.

Cycling SA’s Track Cycling Commission welcomes spectators to the Bellville Velodrome this weekend to support our track cycling stars.
