A long-time supporter of cycling, Rand Water’s partnership with the Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy will provide deserving cyclists from Soweto and Khayelitsha with a much-needed platform to develop their cycling talent, compete against the best cyclists in the country and improve their lives through the sport of cycling.

According to Velokhaya General Manager, Sipho Mona, “Velokhaya has already produced a number of top road cyclists, including Team Bonitas Captain, Luthando Kaka and Team MTN Qhubeka’s Songezo Jim and Nicholas Dlamini.

These riders have not only made their mark on both the local and international cycling stage, but have inspired many township youth to participate and excel in the sport.

“Thanks to the Rand Water sponsorship, the Velokhaya Competitive Team will now be able to build on its successes of 2014, which included gaining a number of podium places in provincial events, a win in the Western Province Time Trial Championships as well as competing in the Mzansi Tour, South Africa’s only international road race.”

Mona said Velokhaya was “delighted that Rand Water has recognised the many years of work and commitment put in by both the Velokhaya team and its management.

“It’s an honour to welcome Rand Water as one of Velokhaya’s main partners for 2015,” he said.

The Velokhaya Rand Water Competitive Team will also be supported by Cadence Nutrition, the team’s official supplements partner, the One Sight Foundation, its eyewear partner and Squirt Lube, which has committed to providing lubricants to keep the team’s wheel’s turning throughout 2015.
