The prestigious 2016 SA National Road, Time Trial and Para-cycling Championships takes place from 10-14 February in KwaZulu-Natal where the country’s top road cyclists are expected to compete for the chance to earn the title of National Champion, and don the much sought-after National Champion Jersey.

Catering for all road cycling divisions, the National Championships will see Elite Men and Women, U23 Men, Junior Men and Women, U16 Boys and Girls, Masters Men and Women, Para-cycling and Tandems competing on the same route at the different required distances in the Time Trial and Road Race events. Although an SA National Title will not be awarded to the U10-U14 categories, specially made jerseys and age group trophies will be presented.

Riders wanting to compete in the 2016 SA National Road, Time Trial and Para-cycling Championships are required to be in possession of a Full Racing License, which is for riders from the age of 15-years-old who wish to be eligible for provincial and national selection and respective colours award. The bearer of a full license is entitled to partake in national championship races. Elite Men and Women that race in these categories will earn UCI points that count toward their national and international ranking. For Elite Women, these points will count towards their national ranking for Olympic qualification before the end of May 2016.

The cost of a Full Racing License is and additional R350 per year, over and above the Cycling SA membership fee of R150 and the applicant has to be member of an affiliated club. These can be done simultaneously. Click here to purchase your Full Racing License: http://csams.cyclingsa.com/.

2016 sees two competition venues, with the Time Trial taking place around the stunning sugarcane farms and timber plantations of the Wartburg / Noodsburg / Harburg area, utilising the same routes that were used for the 2015 African Continental Road Championships. Both Time Trial and Road Race events for the Para-cycling division will take place in Wartburg on 10 and 11 February.

The Road Races will be staged closer to the coast, in Westville (Durban), taking place on 13 and 14 February and utilising predominantly the same routes along the M13 that were used for the 2014 National Championships. Durban, KwaZulu-Natal’s largest city, offers an exquisite subtropical climate and a wonderful range of beaches leaving visitors with a never-ending summer experience.

Athletes competing in only the Time Trial events, and all Para-cycling athletes have an option of booking accommodation at the Warburger Hof Hotel in Wartburg, the race village venue within close proximity to the events. Orion Hotels have put an exceptionally great rate in place for the event, at R350 per person per night sharing. This is a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. Rooms have been provisionally block booked for the event, and anybody contacting with the hotel should indicate that they are making enquiries or bookings as part of the SA Road Championships to make use of these rates. Enquiries and bookings can be made directly with the hotel and all information can be found on our dedicated web page: http://www.cyclingsa.com/2016-sa-road-champs/.

As a Full Racing Licence holder, participants can also make use of the preferential rates offered to Cycling SA members from Europcar. Log into your membership profile online and click the Europcar button to book your rental through the customised online portal: http://csams.cyclingsa.com/
