UCT Track Tuesday League – April

· By Press Office · 5 comments

The boys at UCT cycling have found a diamond in the rough, rocky area that is Table Mountain with their short cross-country style mountain bike track on which the weekly “Track Tuesdays powered by Private Client Holdings” is held.

The UCT Cycling Club has partnered with Private Client Holdings, Trek, Free-wheel Cycology and William Simpson to bring fun short course racing to the schools of Cape Town.

The racing consists of 2 categories, ‘A’ and ‘B’ and the schoolboys and girls seed themselves accordingly. The B race is 3 laps or +-15mins of lung busting riding up the steep climbs and tight berms that litter the track. The A race is much the same only this time the racing is more intense and lasts 4 laps or +-20 mins.

The goal for UCT is to develop mountain bikers and a love for cycling from a grass roots level and through this participation, mobilize communities through bicycles by supporting the Velokhaya foundation with which UCT Cycling is associated.

The track is open to the public with permits being sold at The Gear Change in Mowbray or on Tuesday evenings at the races.

This event is becoming "the" monthly league event for Southern Suburbs school's mountain bikers!

Any chance these crits are going to be open to non-school boys/girls one day?

Currently we only have them open to school kids yes, but we are looking at opening it up to the public next semester, or perhaps an eliminator type race similar to what Olympic Cycles hosted last year. Any news will be communicated via our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/uctcyclingclub/ though, so keep an eye out!
