Western Cape road racing about to take off with Lights By Linea Hero Challenge

· By BikeHubCoreAdmin · 0 comments

After the successful hosting of the Lights By Linea criterium events in Stellenbosch toward the end of 2013, event director Wayne Roberts has extended the series of events into the summer of 2014.

The series will then be followed by a series of long distance one-day races, forming a winter series, with another group of criterium events in the spring of 2014.

Criterium racing is a short course that is based on a time and 1 lap. The events will cater for Youth (U12, U14, u16) – in category 3; Vets, Masters and Women – in Category 2; and Elite Men in Category 1.

Following all correct procedures in obtaining permissions for the events from both Western Cape Cycling and the Stellenbosch municipal authorities, the series looks to provide exciting racing to both spectators and participants.

Besides LIGHTS BY LINEA, the primary sponsor, KIA MOTORS DIEPERIVER has come on board as the official vehicle supplier, whilst TREK BICYCLES and CRAFT CLOTHING have signed up to be part of a series of racing that will elevate road racing in the Western Cape. Cycling South Africa fully endorses the series and what it will do for the high performance side of the sport.

Dates for the events are 25 January, 15 February, 22 February and 2 March 2014.

The format will be as follows:

Cat 3 – start at 14:30 race for 30 minutes and 1 lap

Cat 2 – start at 15:15 race for 1 hour and 1 lap

Cat 1 – start at 16:30 race for 90 minutes and 1 lap

Registration and Parking

For the event on 25 January, registration opens at 11:00 at the Polkadraai Farmstall.

Three of the four events in the summer series will be held at the Polkadraai circuit, whilst the fourth event will have a special venue that will be announced at a later date.
