Youth Festival back in Oudtshoorn in June

· By Press Office · 0 comments

The annual Oudtshoorn Youth Festival will take place from 29 June – 2 July 2015 and encourages all young riders to participate as cycling teams.

Oudtshoorn has been recognised as much more than merely the ostrich capital of the world, and locals and tourists alike return every year to the prime Garden Route spot in the Western Cape province for the cycling festivities. The terrain is perfect for any cycling discipline, which always makes for a great turnout of young riders and many supporting spectators at the Oudtshoorn Youth Festival each year.

This year will see some minor changes to the 2014 Oudstsoorn Youth Festival format in order to accommodate and benefit young riders more than ever before. Different routes have been designed for the Road and MTB events and instead of a Team Time Trial, there will be a 1km hill climb to the iconic Cango Caves. Team composition for the revised format will be critical.

The objectives of the Oudtshoorn Youth Festival events are to:

To create opportunity for all riders under the age of 18 to participate on a regular basis against other riders in the countries with similar abilities, as a team (not as individuals)

To assist provinces with their development and transformation goals

To create venues for younger age groups to show and develop potential, as they are no longer participating in the annual South African Championships.

The emphasis is on “team and mass participation” and the events are structured in such a way that points will be awarded to every participant.

Events will include Road Races, Hillclimb, Criterium, MTB cross-country (XCO) and MTB half- and quarter-marathon races.
