· By Press Office · 73 comments

Are you ready for an Epic Battle with Virgin Active? As a headline sponsor and the official health club partner to the Absa Cape Epic, Virgin Active are giving away an entry to the 2018 event.

Well, not just giving it away. Participants will have to complete a series of challenges between 19 January and 22 February 2017 in order to qualify for the draw.

Three lucky winners, and their chosen riding buddy, will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Cape Town to take part in the Epic Battle as a team at the 2017 Absa Cape Epic grand finale. The toughest team on the finish line will win an entry into the 2018 Absa Cape Epic mountain bike race.

Just want to start the first post of a thread on a bit more formal and useful tone, instead of the "who doing it" or "ridez not syncing" standard Hub talk.

Anyway, the first question: Does the riding buddy also need to meet the goals?

All good except for 5, even if I rode for 24 hours in my area i would not get 3500m.

It's over a week, not a single ride.  So should be achievable.

From what I gathered Yes. 3 x "teams" that have met all the challenges will then be selected, randomly (not nec. the best) and be flown to CT for the final challenge (they don't mention what it will be).

Thats not a challenge? Thats a normal week. It seems they only want people to join the gym.

Yip, I am out by virtue of requirement #6, really no desire to join the gym. Cool plan though and all those wanting to do it- enjoy!

East rand is flat as a pancake, I did a 3 hour ride on Sunday and barely managed 300m ascent. To achieve 3500 i would have to cycle Suikerbos 3 x in 1 week.

Jip.

#6 Not happening.

Maybe the other 5 challenges are a "challenge" for Virgin Active members?

To the normal cyclist out this this should be fairly easy and seen as a "lucky draw"

Does the riding buddy also need to complete the challenges? Or only the main entrant?

Do I have to join Virgin Active to qualify?

From the site terms and conditions:

The winning Virgin Active member can choose a non-Virgin Active member to partner with them in the race. The partner may not be under the age of 18 years. All non-members entries will be contacted by Virgin Active sales consultants with a view to selling them a Virgin Active membership.

Hi Corrado,

Just to confirm:

No, your partner does not need to complete the challenges, nor does he/she have to be a Virgin Active member.

Only the person registered for the competition is required to complete the challenges, and would need to have a membership for entry into the final draw.

How many teams will go to Cape town to ride the indoor challenge (on Sat 25 i presume ) Will it be the winning team ( fastest time ) on the last stage ( Sun 26 ) who will win an entry for 2018 Epic ?
