Prudential PE Plett MTB: The Rough and the Smooth

· By Press Office · 0 comments

Bookings are now open for the 8th annual staging of the Prudential PE Plett premier mountain bike race, which will take place from 6 to 9 February 2020. For this edition, the race starts in Plettenberg Bay, setting off from the prestigious Kurland Polo Fields, and finishes four days later on a massive downhill flow trail run into Crossways Farm Village in Port Elizabeth.

Between luxury tents and tricky single-tracks, live music and technical ravines, complementary wine and beer and unforgiving headwinds, the race offers the best of the rough and the smooth. In fact, it has everything a world-class mountain bike stage race could hope to bring riders – internationals, locals, professionals and weekend warriors. It also serves as ideal training for the Cape Epic, which takes place six weeks later.

Riders have the choice of two different routes: the Tough One and the Lite. In total, the two four-stage routes cover 326 km and 267 km respectively, running through 56 private farms and into forestry and conservancy areas and concessions that are normally completely inaccessible to the public. These traverse the Tsitsikamma Mountains and Forest, ravines and ancient elephant migration routes, one of the biggest Protea farms in the southern hemisphere, and spectacular coastal scenery – even a portion of the Otter Trail.

Entries are R14,900 for a team or R8,900 for solo riders, and clients of Prudential Investment Managers receive a preferential rate. The entry price includes three nights’ accommodation in tents with mattresses, all food and beverages, a great goodie bag with official Prudential PE Plett merchandise, and transport of gear from village to village.
