#SpurFest was born to offer a National inter-schools experience to all riders, and not only those that get selected to the end of Spur Schools MTB League season finals. This event is about bringing school teams together, fostering interaction with old friends (and making new ones!) and celebrating the freedom and opportunities that the mountain bike can bring.
Mountain bike festivals are nothing new. In fact, they were at the heart of the sport’s explosive growth in the 90’s and early 00’s. In South Africa, the Dirtopia MTB Festival led the way from 2000 and offered a variety program celebrating the spirit and soul of the sport.
The Spur Schools MTB League is rapidly flipping cycling events as we know them in South Africa on their head and with our huge youth base it is time to bring the fun back into events and celebrate the diversity that mountain biking offers.
The venue for the #SpurFest is the award-winning Gariep, A Forever Resort. It is the perfect stopover between Gauteng and the Cape, 180 km South of Bloemfontein, just off the N1.
We have loads of exciting activities lined up for the weekend and we will add more activities closer to the time. Activities will range from Time Trails to outrides as well as Bicycle Polo, all activities will be point based and will be allocated to the schools for the weekend. On Sunday your school will have the final opportunity to impress the judges with your school’s Warcry to be crowned as winners of the #SpurFest Interschools.
With only a month and a half to go to the first #SpurFest MTB intershools, we hope you are as excited as us.
