Cervélo and MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung present Tour de France bikes

· By Press Office · 24 comments

As you only make history once, our family at Cervélo have decided to go all out for our African teams debut appearance at Le Tour. We are extremely excited to reveal the special edition Cervélo bikes MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung will ride at this year’s Tour de France.

All three models in use by Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung, the S5, R5 and P5, have all seen the artistic hand of Tom Briggs, Senior Graphic Designer at Cervélo, for this years Tour de France. Two other special edition items that will be seen on the new models are the ROTOR Q-Rings for Qhubeka as well as a sparkling new custom coloured KMC frictionless chains.

Each of the models will then be completed by ENVE wheels, Schwalbe tires, a 3T cockpit, CeramicSpeed bearings, Selle Italia saddles, Speedplay pedals and Lizard Skins bartape.

Briggs explains from where the inspiration came to design these 3 masterpieces, “The gradient lines on the front of the bikes are the heat waves cutting through the sunrise in South Africa. On the top tubes of the three different models you will find the three English translations of Qhubeka, ‘Move Forward’ on the S5, ‘Carry On’ on the R5 and ‘Progress’ on the P5.”

“On the bottom of the downtube on the S5 you will find the 5 colours that make up the South African flag, this exists on all the other models as well. We chose to use chrome on the bikes so that everyone could see themselves as part of the Qhubeka foundation and as part of the team itself. So no matter which bike you’re looking at, it all comes back to Qhubeka itself,” concludes Briggs.

Doug Ryder during his chat on Sat at Cycle Lab mentioned that the paint job is something like 1000 pounds/bike.

The Enve decals should have been black on black or yellow on black.

Keep coming back to look at bikes.

Perhaps the black Cervelo decals in chroom.

They should auction a few bikes at the end of the tour.

Though I won't be able to even afford a front wheel.

Is there anything technically better on these? Or is that premium just for exclusivity?
