  1. Talk of 5-10 minutes burst and plenty freewheeling in this thread. This is my HR data for the race, plus setting a new max HR of 10bpm higher than what it was.
  2. Anyway, race report. started at the front of 2A, headed out onto the highway without issue, 2 youngsters out front setting the pace, I tried to stick with them, but between trying to figure out why my gps was not working and these guys being strong and my legs feeling sore for some reason, I was dropped. managed to stay with the main group of 2A through to Edinburg, I cruised up there but seemed to crest alone, hit the blue route and found a bunch of about 6 guys, we rode through from there to fishhoek where the bunch swelled. Relatively well behaved bunch, stuck together until Smits. Cresting Smit’s I found a few guys from the group and we cruised through to the little climb before ocean view , after the decent, regrouped again and sucked wheel into the wind. some guys went right of the beacons and made things sketchy. Chappies hurt, then the decent had me wide awake after nearly getting flung off by the wind Suikers I just stuck to slow and steady, legs felt like they were going to cramp, after Suikers found a small group and sucked wheel with everything I had, legs screaming at me the last few km. Set a PB of 3:32, 4 minutes quicker than last year . i then sat for 15minutes before heading back to the car, cut off my chip and front number thingy, then headed along the back roads to camps bay, waited for my mate doing his 21st, we road back to the finish together from there
  3. Flippen irritates me. I rode yesterday. It was perfect, did not touch a thing, today it decides to turn off gps. I think it was the update that forced its installation, when I turned it on this morning it notified me that an update had installed. and once a ride is started there appears to be no way of turning gps on again. After the finish I went through the menus again and it said gps. Turned it back on before riding to camps bay and back to the finish.
  4. So my Garmin decided to turn of the gps. No tracking for the entire ride, I had speed, time, HR and cadence. not a big issue in the ride (although no avg speed meant I was doing lots of math in my head), but now uploading to Garmin and Strava has minimal data. does anyone know how to add distance to a Strava ride that only has time?
  5. Short spin from Muizenberg to Simons Town. check this vintage Argus jersey
  6. Was having breakkies earlier after our ride, sitting at Hans and Lloyd when an elderly gent walks past coffee in hand. I greeted and we started chatting. He is one of the original 7, no longer ride the race because he has a heart issue, but still rides 3 times a week. was lekker chatting to him, it would be really cool to sit with him around a braai and listen to all the stories he has to tell.
  7. And when there is wind passing over tugging the number.
  8. I was just out of camera to the left of this pic. They turned around after taking the pic just as I got there.
  9. Picked up 2 sets of those too. Been looking for something like that for a while now, I loathe sticking safety pins through expensive cycling tops.
  10. I was hoping for some good discounts on bibs from my 2 favorites , Vye or Ciovita. Vye has discontinued the mirage bib (new one coming out) so no stock, Ciovita looked like inflated pricing to me so gave them a skip too. did pick up some fresh Versus socks for myself and the wife, and some CTCT souvenirs for the family. oh and a Squirt refill.
  11. Heading through Worcester yesterday. phone stuck out of sunroof
  12. Us too. Just cruised through Hanover
  13. we all know his name is Dale, Cannon Dale.
  14. Mine was incredibly slow and buggy, but over the weekend there were updates installed and it appears to be working much better now.
  15. reading these words from someone that is always positive and strong hits hard. In your profession you probably know every trick in the book to try and stay positive, but just know that you can lean on the community here for support when you need it. We are like the marines, no man gets left behind.
  16. For many years, as a weekend warrior, just finishing the 100km was an accomplishment. Heck the first couple of times I did it the wind blew dust into my eyes as I crossed the finish line, thats how much of an achievement it was for me. I try not to forget that,
  17. Does my bike need to go through road worthy to register for a CAA reg plate ? 😄
  18. might be a bit late for everyone else to do anything about it, I'll probably only go on friday or saturday
  19. As I've understood it, the one we have for 947 is a permanent one and should work for CTCT. I'll be taking mine with to the expo to confirm.
  20. Todays long term forecast that peak in the wind is as you get out of Simon’s town and over Smits
  21. are you asking about adding the route to the app ? I've done the race before, so I link it to Strava and pull past rides from strava into the app.
  22. I've been using Garmin (not the dual) for plenty of years. Got my first one with my edge 130 probably 8 years ago. Only last year did it start with erratic readings because the strap started to come apart. Changed batteries on the transponder thing a number of times and transferred that to the new strap. Maybe I'm just gentle on my stuff, the only thing I do though in terms of taking care of it is to rinse with fresh water after every ride.
  23. I'm to scared to do this calculation. And petrol about to go up R1.21 on the day that we leave. Going to try and get a full tank in before the price goes up.
  24. must have been the cyclists fault. He probably was not wearing a hi viz jacket, was not riding in the dirt on the side of the road and his bike did not have a number plate.
