  1. I recorded 2288m of which probably 100m is the run up the beach to the timing arch into T1 and maybe 50m from the start line until you hit the water.

Seen some reports of hectic swells?

Well done on the great times, guys!

Stand and do it like a man...

This thing seems like it is not worth the effort. Just imagine:

"Hey, guys. We need a pit stop."

*Gets off bike. Digs around in jersey for thingy. Drops shorts to somehow position it properly (hopefully somewhere hidden).*

    *Proceeds to pee.*

*Throws the silicone thingy on the ground* (sies)

Squatting seems much easier, and 100% more environment friendly.

  3. hmmm

Well, at least the athletes received a fair amount of notice. Saw some other IM event switch out their nutrition partner two weeks before the race. IIRC it was IM UK and the switch was from High 5 to Infinit. Athletes were complaining about how stupidly expensive it was compared to the High 5.

Hopefully it is more available than High 5.

  4. It's not uncommon at all really. I very firmly believe the cycling community is a great one, and we tend to look out for each other.

Kudos to everyone who helped though. I have personally been helped by a few individuals and by the gent driving the Cycle Lab Fourways escort vehicle.

  5. What is happening with Suzie Cheetham? Are Ryf and Charles just completely outshining her?

    From her Instagram:

Wow, what a day! I went into this race in the best shape of my life. I was confident I could deliver. But Kona is Kona and it’s not as simple as showing up in good shape. I’ve seen Kona get the better of people and had never experienced it until yesterday. Not the day for a personal worst when the women out front are quite literally flying! I’ve spent the last 12hrs licking my wounds but now it’s time to enjoy a little R&R before we plan our next move. Thanks so much for the support out there & to the people and partners who support me along the way. Congratulations to all who raced and the incredible performances up at the front of the race.  @witsupcom @stefhanson .

    What a classy lady.

  6. Not sure how I feel about these MORF bars on Antony Costes bike.

That positioning looks uncomfortable. I can't imagine hanging onto the bars like that for 90km, never mind 180km. They must have tested this set up in a wind tunnel and found it is slightly faster. Looks very odd.

The bar concept looks very cool. I would be a little concerned about safety and reliability of moving parts on the front end of my bike.

  7. Incredible how anybody on Instagram who questions the data is being accused of all sorts of nonsense by her supporters. There is a real reality challenge for believers these days.

We really shouldn't be surprised. Just take a look at American politics.

If you’re trying to raise 100k for a charity, triathletes are a great target audience. With an average salary of over 130k, triathletes typically have the means to support causes and have proven that they are willing to do so – just look at how many athletes raise thousands of dollars for charity for a single Ironman event. Unfortunately, whether it was Ms. Horner herself or a PR person who did not understand the culture of endurance athletes, comments that were made from Horner’s Instagram account were viewed as condescending and disrespectful to athletes who spend months training and preparing for long-distance events. To make matters worse, when IronCowboy, the only person to have completed 50 Irondistance races in 50 days, reached out to offer his help and support, Horner allegedly asked him what his times were so she could beat him.

Don't support her one bit any longer.

  9. Regardless, its an interesting business. As always, when in doubt, chat to a broker!

And how does one tell if the broker is not pushing his/her own preferred insurance companies?

It's like with financial advisors who push only the products in their portfolio, and make BS claims.

  10. DONOT INSURE YOUR BIKE OR CAR WITH THEM !

    YOU'LL BE DEEPLY SORRY

    This is not really helpful.

We have been insured through them for a long time, and have not had any issues. My hubby had a recent incident where someone rode into the back of him on a highway, and King Price handled it beautifully. They are also not penalizing my husband in any way. We do however have comprehensive insurance, which is expensive. But you do get what you pay for.

  11.

Sorry for jumping in on your post Cheese, the excitement got the best of me!

How does one get there? Or rather, which entrance? I've driven past the gate on corner of Milner Road and Bram Fischer often, but is this even a usable entrance?

You just drive in and present your license. Park at Higher Ground. You can get directions at the gate.

Just be careful in the dark as the tarred roads are popular with runners, and are not lit up at all.

  12. Kinda throws a lot of shade on my achievements. ;)

Fine line between pushing boundaries and insanity... this i think is over the edge.

It is complete insanity. I think this is why people are looking very closely at this. The triathlete community can also be brutal, as everyone is very competitive. Now throw in an Instagram fitness type person, and it's a recipe for a lot of trolling. Instagram fitness models / personalities are not taken very seriously, and often get caught out on lying and putting bad information out there. This should have been done with a little more caution. Maybe try a few IMs before going head into 50/50. Her first IM is done over 21 hours as is, and now I think she is travelling.

DC Rainmaker is posting on SlowTwitch. He does talk to some of the data issues.

    https://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Forum_F1/Fitness_star_Ashley_Horner_to_complete_50_ironman_triathlons_in_50_days_P6671856-60/

If she does 50 IM distances in more than 50 days, it is still crazy. But, be honest and open. She should probably have started a blog with comments on why she is doing what. I bet if she posted about her struggles, and even admits defeat, the people will love her, and she will get a ton more followers.

I find the data to be fishy. I suggested months ago to her to start logging stuff on Strava and she also linked another Ashley Horner account. And today I see a new one. It seems like it has not been thought out 100%, and almost sporadic.

But, this is actually good for the sport. People will realize that triathlons are not completely undoable.

  13. Good Day to all Conserv Clients, Community Members, Tourist Industries, Emergency and Security Service providers, SAPS, Cycle Clubs,Members of the Press and The WHS MA. Regarding the shooting of a Cyclist on Saturday morning on the Kromdraai road in the Cradle Of Humankind WHS, you are cordially invited to attend an Urgent Meeting tomorrow evening Tuesday 14th August 2018 at Engedi on the N14 in Protea Ridge North (COHWHS) for 19h00 to discuss an initiative to upgrade security for both Tourists and Resident of the Cradle and surrounds. Regards Trevor Roberts

    Just got this via WhatsApp.

  14. I see she did her bike leg was done on an apartment store bike. I asked her on IG why she doesn't do this on a TT a few weeks back and she said she has one, and is planning on using it. A little fishy, as I would use the TT 100%. She has stopped saying 50 IMs in 50 days now though. But, going to give her the benefit of the doubt.

  15. I read on Slowtwitch that the swim was short and that she didn't make the distance.

Yeah, and her swim speed is faster than other times she has posted by around 15 seconds per 100m. That is a big variance, but we don't have enough to go on. I just don't want to attack her, as that is unfair.

It's super human. But cheesing through this makes everyone else's accomplishments seem trivial. That's why she has to be truthful and upfront about her efforts. If she lies in any way, no one is going to take her seriously.

  16. How is the prep going, Shaper and @ndy? You guys should be in your last build block now?

I see that Jade Nicole is on fire at the moment. I think there is a good chance she is going to be the first age grouper in.
