  1. I've only had great service from them, granted, both my units were still under warranty, but I recently got my Edge and Varia swapped out
  2. He said that he doesn't want to get scammed..
  3. If you believe it's too high, then dont buy it. Someone else will see the value
  4. I wish we had something like this in JHB
  5. Reading this makes me so thankful for the exceptional service that I get from the guys at Mellow Velo. I'm there at least 3 days a week for odds and ends and I almost always have at least one bike booked in at any given time.
  6. Update: After sending the bike in for an inspection it came to light that the frame is cracked Mr Gabriel King is still quiet
  7. Update: I have received R2500 and a promise for the balance, no ETA and still not responding to my texts.
  8. Bought a bike from Gabriel King, SHE Manager at Unilever It started off as a great transaction, he sent me videos and close up pics, but he smartly omitted disclosing certain details. He dropped the bike off at CycleLab in Durban and I arranged for a courier to get it to me in Johannesburg. He described the shifter to be scratched, and that I would probably want to replace the Di2 shifter and he offered me R2k discount for this, but what he failed to mention was that the shifter wasnt functional at all! I also realized that the rear carbon wheel had been cooked and warped, completely unusable. When I confronted him with my findings he asked that if he would refund me R5k or R6k would I be happy to keep the bike. I said yes, that would make it worth my while to keep, as opposed to sending it back to Durban and demanding a full refund. He was meant to make the payment yesterday morning, then he said he'd make payment yesterday evening and now he is completely avoiding me. Below are the number that he used: 072 960 0922 073 736 4996 After doing some digging I saw that he has 3 x Bikehub profiles under the following names: Gfunkdafied Funkdafied Gabrielpking16 I see that using his other profile he actually had the wheels advertised before, so he knew the rear was damaged as per the link below: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/378981-dark-horse-50mm-wheels/
  9. Good day fellow hubbers, What would constitute a "normal" L/R balance when measuring power during a ride? Mine has gradually declined from 52% / 48% to 58% / 42% Do these still fall within normal boundaries or is it something that I should look at rectifying?
  10. I bought my dream bike 2nd hand and I will do it again! I couldn't warrant paying R180k for a new one, so when a used one came onto the hub in my size I bought it, cash. The guy who bought new took a huge knock, similar to the knock one takes when selling a brand new car a year later, you easily lose 50% of the value. 2 of my mates have also bought used superbikes in the last month, each in excess of R50k. But these bikes new would have cost double that. My car is a 2013 and its paid off and I have a modest house, but nothing makes me as happy as riding the bike of my dreams. I love the looks the bike gets, I love the conversations it starts when Im riding in a bunch and I love the performance, bells and whistles. Its all about priorities, so dont just assume that the guy on the flashy bike financed it, maybe he saved and waited for the perfect one to come his way. Or like me, maybe he didnt buy a new car and instead saved his car payments till he could buy the bike of his dreams
  11. After finishing my first Trans Baviaans last year (2018) I wasn't sure if I would ever do the race again, but when an entry popped up on the Hub I decided to take the plunge. The next challenge was finding 3 teammates willing to join me on relatively short notice. My mate Henry was dead keen and we decided to advertise the other 2 spots available. That is how we got in touch with Tom and Fred, both students at Stellenbosch University. Unfortunately, 3 days before the race, Fred had to withdraw due to illness, but Tom was still keen to take on the challenge alongside 2 strangers from Gauteng. We officially met Tom on Thursday as we picked him up in PE and headed off to Willowmore. The night before the race we saw a Facebook post asking if any teams had a slot available. Pieter had entered a 2 man team and his teammate was rushed off to the hospital for a burst appendix! Pieter, from Wellington, needed a team and we decided to adopt him and add to the already interesting team dynamics. So the morning of the race we officially met our 4th team member at the start line and we set off on this epic adventure from Willowmore to J-Bay through the magical Baviaans Kloof. The race didn't fail to deliver breathtaking views with a mix of water crossings, testing climbs and challenging road conditions. Surprisingly we managed to find such great synergy and gees as a team. 13 hours later we reached our destination. 4 strangers riding their bikes and finding friendship and camaraderie along the way. This will be one of those stories that I look forward to sharing with my grandchildren oneday!
