  1. Hiehie .... As much as I believe in MIPS .... and I will continue using it. @V18 is a medical specialist that has some real life experience of what WORKS. By all means, continue using MIPS .... BUT, add those other factors he mentions 👍 @V18 does not post often. When he does, it is solid input 👍 BAIE dankie V18.
  2. Tongue in cheek .... After a couple of Ironman events, including an age-cat podium, a friend did her first Comrades. Due to an overseas trip the Comrades training was reduced to a 10 week block. Finished it at her normal pace, and none of the "dramatic scenes" associated with Comrades. Recovery did take longer than an Ironman though. Based on the statistical data of a ONE .... Comrades is easier than Ironman She has been top of podium at Trans Baviaans, but not interested in multi-day cycling events ..... actually, she does not like technical rides, so wont enter such events.
  3. Bellville Willowbridge ? Certainly not the service I have received over the past few years. Hope this was a once off glitch from their side .... they normally are very helpful.
  4. I have not done the number crunching on these glasses. Bought an entry level set (R700) at CWC about 4 or 5 years ago. I managed to loose it a year later (went back an hour later... by which time it already had a new home..). Replaced it with exactly the same. It works perfectly for me from cold dark mornings right through to full sunshine, including riding in and out forested sections. My standard routine when I get home from a longer ride (more than an hour): 1. Wash the helmet padding (under a running tap, padding still in the helmet) 2. Wash the heart rate strap 3. Wash the glasses under the same running tap. Dry with toilet paper 4. Clean the gummy-berry juice bottle One minor scratch (from my fall last year). For the rest the glasses are still perfect.
  5. SUV's are not tall enough for extended seat posts. With a MTB the dropper seat post helps 👍 Certainly no one size fits all. I must have spent many hours moving the bikes about before settling on my layout.
  6. Both these bikes fit inside the Ertiga. With 3 usable seats. I removed seat #7 and added front wheel mounts. 30 sekonds to remove the rear wheel guides, flip up the seats and have a 6 seater to treat the Potch train when the visit us for the CTCT. @SilverRider Mounting brackets are from Holdfast. Your LBS can order this for you. You are welcome to pop over if you want to see what worked, and what I will change next time. I am in Bellville Not sure I would use a 3D printed bracket to mount the wheel. It may be handy for a bracket to limiting side ways sway.
  7. @Robbie Stewart moet maar net n paar spaar lids bring .... The timing format is such that the "faster" riders SHOULD be ahead .... okay, lots of reasons to fall back, but this is PART of the Epic.
  8. 2024 - HEAT .... 2023 - WET ... and severe rain over the last couple of days .... 2022 - ??? cant recall what the conditions were like then ....
  9. It probably depends a lot on the "type of impact" Straight on .... MIPS has nothing to add in that case. Mine was very much an impact and then one massive torsional force on my neck. I do believe it saved me. But I am the first to acknowledge this is anecdotal at best ..... (good enough for me ... in this case)
  10. 11 March 2023 I had the unfortunate opportunity to TEST MIPS ... High speed incident landing on my head, and twisting my neck into my chest. Two things happened: 1. The helmet did an excellent job of absorbing the impact. Few stones left inside the foam of the helmet. 2. Most of the "twist" action was absorbed by the MIPS. The inner layer of the MIPS stayed in place, with the outer shell of the helmet rotating over my head and face, much like a motorcycle visor would. (strange the details we remember in that moment) Without the MIPS my neck may well have suffered severe injury. Some other brands sell "similar to MIPS" ... but when you look at it, it is actually crumple zones, not a rotating shell. Please ensure you get MIPS or equivalent rotating functionality.
  11. Very well put. I had the old tank with compressor on top, the oil type. After a few decades, and a few repairs, I bought an oil-less compressor with a 20 liter tank. Significantly MORE noise. As its flow rate is less, this noise lasts longer to fill the tank. Just blowing the chain dry has the compressor restarting .... I certainly wont buy such a small oil-less unit again. But yes, is certainly works well for tubeless.
  12. They DO !!! 👍 Actually lent my set to a friend last week. Late afternoon, going through forest sections, out INTO the setting sun, back into shade .... Their reaction when they SEE it WORK is always priceless. I leave home in the DARK, with these on, and keep them on for the ride. Whatever the condition, the glasses adapt instantly.
  13. Speak to Knipe_Racing They might have spares
  14. CL do sell Titan Racing bikes 👍 @Titan Racing Bikes
  15. Maybe to prevent what happened to me. 0,5 is a LOT of wear. With a fair chance that the ring also needs replacement .... I have since done about 3 000 km. No sounds or slipping nor shifting issues.
  16. I tried that .... TOO LATE ... chain ring does not like the new chain. No, I wont be swopping chains every 500km .... maybe every 1000 to 1500km .... For now I am still riding on that chain, chain ring and cassette. Now past 0,5, but still working, so it stays on ....
  17. See if you can get hold of Adv Fourie Kotze He did a couple in the mid 80's
  18. Previous two years had a fair bit of drone coverage, in the single track sections
  19. Interesting tit bit of information At least two teams from Ceres withdrew on Day 4, due to the heat. Theses are LOCALS that did all their training in this climate !! Doubt anybody expected so many consecutive HOT days ....
  20. Rode there a few times. I am VERY careful !! The way the A and B lines flip left right means I never know where to aim ... But once you know it .... WOW !!! It must be such a thrill to FLOW those lines 👍
  21. That is priced NOT to sell. Article is pretty clear about that. They even say the price will reduce after the olympics. Pretty sure if somebody put down the money, to buy the technology not the bike, that there will be a "delivery period" ... delivery post olympics. On the technology front .... would love to know more about the "dot painted decals" .... uneven surface to further reduce drag ?
  22. https://evobikes.co.za/product/shimano-slx-m7100-1x12-transmission-groupset/ Then again .... https://evobikes.co.za/product/sram-gx-eagle-1x12-speed-upgrade-kit-10-52t/ Interesting to see the number of "Sunrace-sets" in the line up ....
  23. My anti-virus lights up like a christmas tree .... does not like this site at all.
  24. Some say he embodies the revenge of the math nerds ...
