  1. MOST medical aids now have some or other incentive program to get members to go for "Early screening".
  2. EARLY DETECTION .... Cois often spoke about "early detection". And sadly his journey is testimony to late detection and delayed treatment. I got the news last night of a dear friend that was diagnosed with colon cancer. WAY too many similarities between his delayed diagnoses and treatment. Three operations later we await the outcome of a full body scan, to see if it has spread. No words .... too many emotions today .... PLEASE people, have your regular check ups.
  3. Point in case - last year an event outside Ashton the one farmer changed approvals the night before the event !! Caused a fair bit of issues .... Have to feel for organisers trying to negotiate all these hurdles.
  4. Spot on ! I had Tectro on the commuter. I swopped it out for entry level Shimano ... exact same feel ... Traded up on these - https://evobikes.co.za/product/shimano-deore-bl-m4100-br-mt420-disc-brake-set/ Stops on a dime 8 000 km later still VERY happy with it.
  5. Dare I say I am MAMIL to the core. Middle aged at 55. Definately male. Have not been on a scale in more than a year ... based on a shrinking belt size I am estimating below 90kg now. (down from 110kg) And YES, lycra all the way .... Was 1,76m. Apparently I am now 1,75m Currently on M bikes. Loved the fit of the L Scott.
  6. Few posts already elude to this ... MTB on a farm. with ZERO public roads? OR ... an event which includes public roads ? Each province has a some or other form of "Community Fire Safety By-Law". Amongst others, this dictates the process if you want to host an event which will include any public space. BEST follow a seasoned organiser through this process .... At the event itself. PARKING .... safety of people and their vehicles are becoming an issue at some events. ROUTE MARKING .... by all means, share the route file, but MANY still dont use this, and it takes one missing arrow for chaos to ensue .... Worst was when the staff at the water table though it was huge fun laughing at all the 40km riders taking the only marked turn and heading off onto the 70km route .... Clear coloured arrows works best, especially when there are 2 or 3 distances. Medals .... Have to agree with a previous poster .... those that have enough, dont take another one. I am still miffed that Maritz did not get a medal at an event outside Ceres .... an "easy 40km" for one rider is a milestone race for another which he/she wants a medal to remember it by. REGISTRATION ... PLEASE have the option to pick up the board or whatever on the morning of the event .... these day trips the day before the event is a logistical frustration. TIMING .... If this is just another race, not a seeding event for CTCT or such, then why spend the lion share of your turnover on a timing company ? Best I have seen was in Stanford ... IF you want your race position, then share your Strava with the organisers and they publish results. What is your plans post race ? Bazaar vibe ? Make sure to provide plenty of bike stands ... And lots of shade .... People only hang around so long when baking in the sun ... THANKS for trying to put an event together !!! It is hard work. But know that despite a few vocal moaners, most enjoy these days.
  7. Mark's Bike Workshop. Sad to hear about Cyclosport. I have bought a few bikes there.
  8. Which begs the question ... Only live ? OR View on demand an option ?
  9. Jip .... And it may need a much closer look at this alternate interest rate it will be based on .... certainly not a straight comparison. What is interesting is that it is ultimately a Standardbank bond ....
  10. https://www.facebook.com/100031454186933/posts/1138394857218976/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v Happened quick ...
  11. ^^^ THIS ^^^ Friend paid a big brand shop "to service" the kids bike. What they actually did: - new tyres What I did to that same bike a week later: - brakes - repack rear wheel bearings - BB was broken, replaced it - repack front bearings - replaced the grips - fitted bar ends What was okay: - chain and drive train - pedals Steering felt smooth, so I did not open it. Frankly, a new makro kids bike would cost less than a bike shops costs to do all this. Only reason I did it properly is because they were handing the bike down and it was going to be used for years
  12. Sounds SO familar 🤣 Walked into Mark's shop on a couple of Mondays .... "I fixed it until it broke ..." Shocks and suspension ... I pay him to do this 👍 The rest I like doing myself.
  13. In fairness ... every 6 months is an oil change, not a full shock rebuild ... Dont scare him off completely ... 🤪
  14. SPOT ON. Typically 3 possibilities: 1. Bike fit ... sounds like this is sorted 2. skeletol structure .... (for a lack of better term) 3. Everything @Irvin85 said .... a GOOD bio will do a range of tests to hone in on the issue at hand. It is a PROCESS, not a quick fix, depending on the individual and how many muscles are involved in the cause.
  15. Hey it could be worse .... I watched most of the 7 yellow armband titles .... was able to watch it "real time" on dstv back then .... I was a BIG supporter of Lance ..... still conflicted .... not easy being objective when you are invested in a person .....
  16. What, if any, is the link between Canal+ and Europsport ? What would be the impact on cycling broadcasting when (if) Canal+ takes over DSTV ? Canal+ bought another 5% during the last three days ... thats after their official bid. They are now buying up shares below R120, while their offer for a complete buyout is R125 per share. At a R1,1B purchase in three days that is a tidy saving for them .... different question - - - Apparently their aim is the larger African market .... wonder if they are going to be paying premium rates for local rugby, cricket, etc .... Clearly this going to come down to a numbers game .... only certainty .... change is coming ....
  17. There are two very active WA groups for Stellenbosch, linked to Stellenbosch University Campus Control. Easy to get the message out of an incident .... by which time the perps have jumped over the railing and dissapeared .... A more pro-active approach is needed.
