  1. I converted to 28mm tyres about a year ago . I stayed with the 23/25 mm tubes and even pumped tyres to 6 bar not knowing that one can ride them at a lower pressure . I have not had a issue and know pump 4.5bar front and 5 bar rear . The comfort level is very noticeable.
  2. It fires a blank 9mm filled with pepper spray powder ? . It comes out as a mist and is effective to about 20 m.
  3. Were are you situated . A mate of mine has a brand new ( 8.5km done on it ) Silveback Stride with all accessories for sale .
  4. As said , take tyre back to the shop you bought it from and let them consider a warranty replacement . Failing that i would put pin marker in it ,take it off the rim , clean the sealant off at that spot and put a decent thick patch on it . The sealant will do the rest for you .
  5. (But the greatest change we've made is using only raw, unprocessed, unpasteurized milk and dairy products) Quote Eddie V . I supported a mate of mine who had a small dairy farm and we bought unpasteurized dairy products from him . My wife was diagnosed with Brucelossis and was hospitalized for it . I avoided it but was advised buy the Drs and dietician to not use unpasteurized dairy product . Just on a side note i was hospitalized 5 weeks ago with a bladder infection . My wife came to visit twice and got terribly ill on the Friday . I was discharged on that Friday and on Saturday /Sunday i had the same . We were both tested positive for Covid which we got from the hospital . So fellow cyclists don't be fooled and think that that Dreaded Lurgy has left our shores because it is still about .Drs are side steeping the word Covid and call it "Upper respiratory infection " Just look a the TdF podium presentation and you will see the masks still being worn by officials .
  6. On my birthday (71 ) 19th may i was going to do a 71km ride but only managed 30km as i felt ill . I was diagnosed with bladder infection and admitted to hospital for 5 days . Colleen came to visit a few times during my stay . I was discharged on the Friday and on arrival at home found Colleen to be ill (Covid positive ) . The next day i was Covid positive as well so we isolated ourselves for 2 weeks to get over the dreaded Lurgy . I felt the effects of this Covid and can now sympathize with others . I waited another week before attempting a ride . I went out yesterday afternoon to our local Mtb trail , riding there and doing only one short lap and back home gave me a comfortable 20 km . This morning i started my daily ride routine and did a flat 25 km easy ride ( 19kph ave ) . I will slowly build up to my daily 40km again . I have always believed that a ride shorter than 20km is not worth the effort so ill keep it at 25 km until im confident enough to push on a bit further .
  7. My choose would be Silverback as its backed by the biggest local bike shop around . I have a Silverback Sido 2 full suspension with ( 60,000km ) and not a single issue . What is your budget ?
  8. Surely the recognized trailer manufacturers who can then do the mods to hold the bikes would be a good start and to get a base price .
  9. Check out the AirBnB site there seems to be a lot of complete houses available
  10. Three months ago i bought Pirieli tubes at Cycle Lab and paid R69 . This week i paid R99 for the same tube . A price increase of 43% . No justification of supplier increase , exchange loss , fuel cost , inflation or whatever you can add into the mix will not justify that . What have you found to be the case with cycling products purchased lately .
  11. I have used the cheapest non brand /super market tubes in both road and mtb wheels and never experienced a tyre not holding pressure for less than 24 hours . Kenda tubes have always been good to me and not let me down . Punctures are not the fault of the brand of tube you use but were and how careful you ride . As tyres wear thinner they are more subject to punctures from glass , sharp stones and shards of metal .Im currently using Pirelli tubes on my Monson HT ( slick 29 X 1.40 tyres and pireli 700x40 tubes ) and ride every day . I might pump those tyres once a month to 4 bar .
  12. I must agree although if built by " Non Bikers " they tend to be "under engineered " . I agree with Ouzy as i i built my three bike rack 30 odd years ago and all its needed was a respray . Its also carried bikes many kilometers on all types of terrain .
  13. I would never use a home / small workshop made bike carrier . As good as the design and workmanship are the only R&D and testing you have is with your own bikes on it . Your guess is as good as mine .
  14. Obviously not a well used product 😄.
  15. The racing so far is boring or is it because the commentator who has the most monotonous voice .
  16. Ive been following this with interest . I see mention of syrup , honey , dates sugar , salt and what ever suits your taste and fuel . Im old school and have done multi day tours , long classics ( SA ) short intense races , long distance training rides ( +_ 200km ) and daily intense fitness training on the bike and indoor trainers . Im old school and have always relied on a good water intake (1 liter per hour ) and a solid natural food intake of at least 50 grms of raisins or dates . My post ride drink still today is a Coke Cola . I have never had cramps or a bonk for running out of energy . Im sure with the modern shakes and drinks available the above can be simulated but int comes at a price . The problem i also for see is if you run out of stock of your favorite fuel and need it for a race or training ride that day you are in trouble .
  17. Thats the way to go . I had a Monson 27.5' fully kitted with SLX Shimano and was trying to sell for R5k . Eventually stripped it down and sold everything separately and pocketed R9500 with a few items left over to sell later .
  18. That is a very vague statement , details will help .
  19. You mention your hubs serviced but often the techies dont check each ball bearing . If they are the old type ball bearing with cones it could possibly them . One damaged ( cracked ) ball causes a grinding noise which reverberates through the frame . I had this a few weeks ago and found that to be the cause .
  20. Doing a good deed there for your community . Dont try get 29s in that price range ( tyres alone are expensive ) Look at old school 26s with a 7 or more cassette block . ( spares are cheaper and bike is easier to tune in ) . I recently bought a Axis 26 for R1300.00 for my garden executive .
  21. There are lot of groups that ride from Benoni on weekends and some weekdays out past Bapsfontein and back to various starting points . Its all gravel jeep and single track through the agricultural areas avoiding private property .
  22. Those center pull type are even worse to tune . Im an old school bikie back when center pull was all the rage and side pull was for supermarket special bikes . Im going to do a complete strip down and clean up on those brakes to see if they improve .
  23. i recently bought my horticultural engineer a Axix Mtb to commute to work and home . I gave it a good once over readjusting gears brakes and regreasing all moving parts . The cantilever brakes have seen better days and are a bitch to adjust . They will one day not touch a rim edge and the next day it will drag on one side . I want to replace them with something more efficient and simpler do work on and adjust if needed. Any suggestions please . ( This is a poser for Robert Whitehead ) who i consider very well versed technical.
  24. Ive posted in the Buy & Sell section but want to make interested members aware of this item . Some members doing other adventure disciplines might be interested . My son bought out a ambulance services equipment and has 70 of these units available at R1200. each . https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/87768#overview
