I guess now I have heard of issues . . .

As safe as parking can be in JHB
I have not heard of issues. There is a sign-in process, and a boom with a guard.
Really great place to ride! Some long climbs too. Lots on offer in one place
Also think Mars Bars is great.
Was there too this weekend. It is very dry but well maintained and looking good.
There is a lot of activity in the reserve. Cars driving around, some piping being put in. I wonder if there are building plans or changes coming?

Or maybe I just ride too fast for it...
Or maybe your riding snacks are sub par. Are you vegan?

Very much so.
Seems like every other week there is a new (or old) section being opened up. Which is cool to see. Just need more riders to rip the grass up on them

OP posts about Thaba being his easy ride... And that was his last post 🤣
Jokes aside... how did you find it? some tricky blue sections there (assuming they open)

Well worth riding, almost feels like a mini Karkloof in some areas.
Yea they 100% open now. Great option to have to ride
Rode here this weekend, and it has lots of potential. Unfortunately not popular (yet) so I thought I would create this thread for awareness so they can keep it going and expand it. Inside the prison grounds, pay at the entrance.
The 1st part is a bit grassy (needs more riders really) but very pretty. The route is mostly jeep track with a few single tracks. Some nice climbs for for training.
32KM has 600m of climbing. Careful the downhills (ruts!) And it has one awesome single track descent at the +-27km mark.

Anyone ridden there since the changes? What is it like?
With the lack of distance available, are there redeeming factors ?
Hopefully the law plays it's part to send a strong message and save lives going forward. Doesn't bring him back though. Really tragic.
Can only comment on the Snap2
Served me well for 1300km so far. I am hobbyist at best. I am not concerned with needing to calibrate every ride or have power accuracy a small % out.
With a trainer or road tyre it is not noisy either. Would recommend it
Reserve looking good.
But why of why do people ride the river section when they clearly don't want riders through there? It's not ambiguous. They have sealed if off.
I know it's nice single-track but there is a reason it's closed off, likely to protect the birds mentioned in this thread.
How'd you find the ride?
Nearly all the climbing came at the end which made it tough. And the descents were rocky, so no let off.
I really enjoyed it.
Long sleeve gloves and bas layer long sleeve shirt for me. Shorts.
Should be enough.
That is the only info I could find.
Apparently we should get a whatsapp with start times (my buddy got one, I did not)
Looks good.We went to Phambili side of Avianto trails, just for a reminder of how nice and challenging the trails there are.
How did you access it? If I'm understanding correctly, this is the section that you go under the tunnel to cross the main road to get to? I did this a few weeks ago and found a gate closing off the trails with a "private residence" no entry sign.
Unless I'm misunderstanding.
