  1. this article was inspiring and glad it got sorted

In actual fact It was motivated me and my father in law to confront the guy who sold us 2 fake bikes.

An tips on how to approach him.

He sold my father in law a pinarello, which after watching carte blanche we can confirm is a fake. And after we asked him at least 3 times he confirmed it is a original pinarello.

And he sold me a rebranded cervelo s5, also multiple times I asked is it a geniune Cervelo and it was confirmed multiple times. and my lbs confirmed its a fake.

Only dif is we didn't pay 90k, we payed just over 35k each. So you might argue we got what we payd for. But he explicitly said its the genuine thing on multiple occasions and in front f multiple witnesses, and he is planning opening his own shop in randburg, so this might happen to more people soon, so if we can stop it now, we can also prevent future people from being scamed.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma. I think that there are going to be a quite a few cases of this, and I bet the 2nd hand market will come under major scrutiny as well. I would hate to think how many fake bikes are out there without people having so much as a clue.
  2. I spoke to Robbie and here are the facts: they were all fully aware and totally informed that the pinarellos we're not genuine prior to the purchase. Despite being wealthy they wanted to save money but still have the designer label. After being humiliated in Australia and forced(?) to buy a new bike he develops a sense of indignation and self righteousness and exacts revenge by going the cowardly route and contacting carte Blanche, regardless of the fact that he is jeopardizing someone's livelihood. He only has himself to blame. No one put a gun to his head. Take responsibility!

Yet it's OK to jeopardize the lives of the people that are riding these fake bikes?
  3. I had the same decision to make between the same bikes, I went with the Trance as it was more bang for your buck and with upgrades came in just over 30K.

I test rode both bikes and preferred the feel of the Trance. I also prefered the 650B wheel size then the 29er. The Trance also does climb very well, and with suspension open to descend mode on the Fox it handles the downhills with ease. I feel more confident on this bike then I did my 26er Trance.

Your best bet is to take them both out for a test ride. Good Luck.

  4. This was a rather unfortunate accident and my I feel terrible for the loss of life, but I don't think that you can blame any of the trail owners though.

Mountain biking is an extreme sport and with that comes certain risks and dangers, we all know this when we climb aboard our trusty steeds.

An accident can occur in even the most stupid of instances, I just hope that they don't set about trying to dumb down the trails because of this tragic incident.

I stand to be corrected but I think that a white memorial bike is being erected in remembrance of this rider at the bridge where the incident took place.

  5. Good Morning Hubbers,

It's funny that this thread has popped up because last week i sent my second hand Pinarello Dogma 60.1 in to my LBS to have the gromit in the frame that the bottle cage is screwed into replaced because the previous owner made it so tight that the actual gromit popped out when i was changing the cage.

So in it went and later they rang me saying they have to send it off to Pinarello South Africa to have it done because they are scared that they would crack the frame. Understandingly i said that's fine. Yesterday i got a call from the LBS saying that Pinarello have turned the bike away saying that the serial number is not registering on their system making it a fake.

Now reading this whole thread I have come to understand more about the Grey import/ Fake situation, but being in the freight forwarding industry I already understood quite a bit.

What i wanted to ask the members is this: If a bike is a Grey import it should therefore not be on the Brands serial numbering system in that country because it was not brought through the official channel ? Or am i wrong here. All i want to know is is the Bike a grey import or a FAKE. I have had a friend look at my bike who also owns a Pinarello but a newer one and he says it's not FAKE.

Today i am going to email the chap i bought the bike from and ask politely as I know with these second hand sales deals that go on people can generally get quite itchy about queries coming back after the purchase has been made.

Any advice here will be much appreciated. All i want in the end of the day is to have this issue resolved. I am not a serious racer and if the bike is a fake then so be it i can live with it because it is still a full carbon frame etc etc and Bottom line it works perfectly for me. But if it is so does anyone know of a good Carbon repair man in JHB ( northern suburbs) that i would be able to take it to and have it done seeing as Pinarello wont help.

Apologies in advance for changing the topic somewhat but i thought it was quite fitting to this thread.

    Cheers

Where did you get your bike from?
  6. Exactly the same shape. Works well (when I ride, that is)

Would probably be better to make it out of a less rigid plastic, so it doesn't crack as easily. Like the plastic that those clear jerry cans are made of. Polyprop I think... Not too well versed on the properties of different plastics anymore.

ABS  I've been thinking about cutting a whole lot on the CNC Machines at work, I can't see why I couldn't customise them as well.
