  1. Thanks for the response TMTB. I do not think they should be running on any of the MTB trails at all. Its all very well to say that they insist that cyclists have the right of way. All that means is that a group of runners will move and stand a little off the trail. Come round a corner a bit wide and you will still be at risk or distracted by the group and get something wrong because of that. They won't take responsibility because you did not hit them. There are many km of pedestrian friendly single track on TM after all. As I have said before I think TMTB needs to add a skills section to the website including some comments on situational awareness and considerate riding because some MTB riders are as bad as the trail runners IMO
  2. I am with you on this one SpyDude but its not only the trail runners. Last week I was riding up the jeep track to see an XC rider and his tjom riding up the last piece of Vasbyt and the big berm!! Straight past the tiny sign nogal. I shouted loudly at them but they ignored me. I caught the guy up near boulders and asked him if it was him on the berm. He admitted it but was quick to tell me that he is a "racer" and knows what he's doing and this was the first time in more than a year he'd done that. I warned him about the dh speed issue and that dhers and others used the late afternoons to train, which he was unaware of. Trail and Tar has a running group do they not? Perhaps a good place to start would be there. They should not be on Vasbyt and definitely not on the dh lines.
  3. Okay, so you literally bomb down the far side and see how far and high you can go when you hit the lip where the bike is. What does the landing look like? I can see how it could cause problems for those not versed in the correct body position and getting a bit of pump on the bike at take off. Also you speed needs to be managed carefully I would imagine...
  4. If they want a real cyclist
  5. http://velofille.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/former-pro-cyclist.jpg You have to get this guy. He is famous too.
  6. Must say it is looking good - even better than a week ago now that the drop into the troll bridge has been patched up along with the junction below it. There is now also a nice little jump just before the middle big berm... Those snakes just need a going over...
  7. That is luck rather than rim strength (or you don't ride quite as hard as you think you do)
  8. Glen Wayne Bill - Thats a lot of first names...
  9. It just keeps getting better - the damp weather is part of it but mostly its the repairs and tweaks here and there - well done guys!
  10. Only ten entries so far! I wonder if they were expecting more interest...
  11. I was in for the Virb elite for the reasons given but then got a good deal on a Hero 3 Black and could not justify the extra R2 k for the Virb. So far pretty happy with the Go Pro. Overcast autumn days seem to be the best for filming - camera hardly has to adjust between shade and open areas and resolution does not suffer too much in poor light.
  12. I went with the stick on mounts. They seem very secure. For my open face helmet I attached a piece of old rear mudguard with cable ties in the top/middle of the helmet and stuck the mount onto that. Works perfectly.
  13. Its aimed at being blood and guts - sort of like the mtb Hunger Games/Survivor combo with no killing, but maybe some deaths. I think it is great and will make good television and social media fodder. Its a change from the usual staid stage race scene - yes its expensive but at least the winners and others will be rewarded richly - unlike that other event which costs half as much per team now, offers limited prizes and has become as boring as hell, IMHO. Of course time will tell whether this actually works. They could make this almost impossible to finish in 5 days if they choose their route with mountains and MTB in mind. If its just dirt roads, then yes, it will be more like a RAAM and not as exciting as it sounds at the moment. Somehow I doubt it will be just a boring slog but who knows...
  14. Mmm. Vintage vitriol from the lefty brand banger
  15. I am going to do a little movie like this of every trail at Tokai eventually. PoS - how about a video guide section on the Tokai website?
  16. windy and overcast day but made for good shadow free filming weather...
  17. Another Tokai youtube vid ...
  18. Next Scott bikes will be banned on the trails that Spaz built Not a bad idea actually...
  19. Claims against Cape Pine are also highly unlikely from a legal standpoint so IMO the rationale for closure is illfounded
  20. Sam you are still not making sense...Its a petty turf war that only harms both brands involved and MTB Many of the trails had Spaz branding on the signs...
  21. Its not cool at all, but you are doing more to harm the big Spaz brand than any of the Scott freeloading is doing with stories like this How to win friends (MTBers) and influence people - not. Hows this headline - "Specialized mountain bikes behind Jonkershoek trail closure" That's great advertising.
  22. Frankly I cannot begin to fathom the small mindedness of this little dispute. Trailguy/OP - what is your name and why have you put this sensationalist, dare I say "nonsense" about Jonkers closing on a public forum like this? Surely the protagonists should be issuing statements or communicating transparently. Pathetic.
  23. Agree - BS has no name. This looks like more of a hand bag fight than Tokai - an imaginary one at that.
  24. The only off kilter comment Alex Harris makes is his reference to "pampered pro's" - no doubt like the ones he saw on the Epic. Here's the thing - some of those boys and girls are a lot tougher than they look and I bet some of them enter this - their pampering sponsors will jump at the opportunity to prove him wrong and foot the bill - maybe that's the idea though - a bit of a challenge thrown down is always good for a story and some $$... edit: Oh, ya, its time MTB got some funding and decent prize money but I'd like to see it also thrown the way of the free riders who put their lives at risk at the likes of the Red Bull Rampage...
